We're looking for an experienced Design Engineer to join our growing Mechanical Handling department -- someone with the creativity, technical expertise, and attention to detail to develop innovative, hygienic equipment that meets the demands of customers across the UK and internationally.

Your Role at a Glance

You will take products from initial concept through to detailed design, creating bespoke machinery that combines functionality, durability, and hygienic excellence. Using SolidWorks 3D CAD, FEA simulation, and your engineering know-how, you will turn customer requirements into robust manufacturing-ready designs.

Key Responsibilities

Product Design & Development Take ownership of projects from concept to final detail design. Use SolidWorks 3D CAD to model bespoke machinery and adapt existing standardised designs for specific customer requirements. Apply FEA simulation and manual calculations to verify structural integrity and performance. Produce detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials using SolidWorks and ERP systems. Specify technical requirements for purchasing and manufacture.

Technical Expertise & Collaboration

Design sheet-metal and welded structural fabrications.

Incorporate electric motor drives, with knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems an advantage.

Ensure designs meet hygienic manufacturing standards and regulatory requirements.

Work closely with production, procurement, and installation teams to ensure designs are cost-effective, manufacturable, and fit for purpose.

Required Skills & Attributes

HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering (IT and electrical design qualifications an advantage). Minimum 5 years' experience using 3D CAD (SolidWorks preferred). Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach. Innovative, proactive, and hands-on, with a passion for product design. Full UK driving licence.

Desirable Experience

Designing for hygienic environments. Working with quality systems and regulatory frameworks. Familiarity with automation and process machinery.
