An exciting opportunity has a risen for a Design Engineer at Walker Filtration. The main purpose of this role will be to ensure that class leading new and innovative products are developed on time and to budget in line with customer requirements and the growth expectations of the business.
This is a challenging and exciting role in a dynamic and growing organisation, working as part of the Design Team and reporting to the Engineering Manager. In addition to being a 'hands-on' design role, the role will also involve the leadership and management of engineering deliverables within project teams.
This position is a valued and influential member of the Engineering team and will involve extensive cross functional interaction at all stages of product development, research and pre-development through to post manufacturing support.
Working as part of the Engineering team, you will be tasked with creating innovative new designs to extend our current product portfolio. The role will also require maintaining existing product ranges, with projects focused on optimisation. The position reports to the Engineering Manager, and will involve extensive cross functional interaction, particularly with manufacturing, quality, supply chain at all stages of product development and through serial production.
Responsibilities include:
The design, development, and implementation of technically innovative and commercially competitive new products and product extensions.
The production and maintenance of technical documentation, including CAD drawings, costing data, technical construction files, design calculations, bills of materials, technical specifications, marketing information, test data etc.
Ensuring deadlines are met, the quality of engineering output is optimal and design files kept up to date.
Ensuring the maintenance and continuous improvement of existing products and components.
To actively participate in projects when required, providing competent Engineering support and input, i.e., Engineering authority within a project meeting (PTM)
Contribute to the preparation of product costs including materials, equipment, labour, and logistics required for engineering projects.
Continuous interrogation of product and components to identify and implement cost savings and performance improvement.
Fulfilling requirements to obtain product approvals and all mandatory legislative compliance.
Provide management information/presentation slides/project updates as and when required.
The provision of technical and engineering support and assistance, not only within the business, but externally to customers and suppliers which may involve site visits of both a national and international nature.
To assist and provide support to the Engineering Management as and when required.

Criteria
Relevant experience
A minimum of 3 years in a similar Engineering or Technical Design role within a manufacturing environment.
Pressure vessel design code and regulations, e.g. ASME BPVC, Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) is desirable.
Detail design, DFMEA process, problem solving techniques and design for manufacture.
Cast and moulded component design.
Compressed air and compressed air filtration, drying and purification experience is advantageous.
Proven competence and experience in technical report compilation / writing.
Education and Training
Degree educated in a relevant design / engineering subject.
Fully competent CAD user, preferably Autodesk Inventor and / or Solidworks.
Proficient MS Office User (particularly Word, Excel and MS Project).

Show initiative when required.
Decisive. Ability to rationalise and make reasoned technical and commercial decisions particularly under pressure.
Multi tasks easily with the ability to meet tight deadlines.

Ability to communicate and deliver technical information at all levels, both internally and customer facing.
