What you'll be doing?





The Design and Technical teams are involved in all aspects of housing design and innovation, this team is also responsible for researching the best materials, at the best cost.


In terms of design, there's the sheer variety of our sites, many of them using existing buildings, and all of them with unique problems to solve. Then there's the question of new materials and our drive for sustainability and value, all in the face of ever changing building and environmental legislation.


Most of the people in this team have an architectural or engineering background, and for all, we offer the opportunity to gain expertise in design and project management in a thought-provoking setting.



Reporting to the Technical Director, to manage the design process and report on all planning and architectural aspects of the business from land acquisition through to site completions.



You will be expected to:



Provide a practical and cost-effective design service to the company. Management of in-house and external designers to ensure that best practice is followed, costs are controlled, the department maximises revenue generation and contribution to the company's operating profit. Ensuring all layouts produced fully comply with planning policies, technical constraints and Barratt Redrow plotting requirements, whilst also maximising value. Ensure full compliance by all Departments in relation to the use of standard house types and the plotting of those house types in accordance with the plotting books. Jointly responsible for producing technical design solutions within cost plan or approved appraisal budget. Take responsibility for site evaluation, planning, architectural/ or engineering design and the investigation of technical problems encountered and provision of economically viable solutions. Jointly ensure that Technical Department procedures are adhered to, and layouts, technical reports for land appraisal and required working drawings are provided within the agreed date schedule. Ensure that the Group Policy and Procedures are fully managed and controlled. Liaise with other Departments throughout the development process, provide technically correct information as required. Take responsibility for liaison with regulatory bodies such as the NHBC and planning authorities in order to satisfy current standards and conditions. Build strong relationships with Architects. Review, critique and challenge layouts received from Architects to ensure best design, best practice and ultimately best value is driven from the scheme. Negotiate and deliver planning consents to the agreed timetable. Work with the Group Design & Technical Team to keep fully aware of the current House type ranges available, and how to plot them appropriately and efficiently. ###

What you'll need?




To be successful in the role, we are looking for:



A strong team motivator with the drive and tenacity to achieve the goals of the business. Excellent communicator, with high detail orientation. Extensive experience of working within established development methodologies. Ability to prioritise tasks to meet changing business needs. Demonstrable effective experience of working for a major company in a similar role or at the level of either Planner, Architectural Technician or Design Engineer. Knowledge and understanding of the major functions within the remit of Technical services and how they impact on site acquisition and development. Qualified as an Engineer, Architectural Technician or Planner to HNC level, RICS or RIBA qualified or NVQ Level 5 in a relevant subject. Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines. A desire to want to exceed Customer expectations. Excellent communicator at all different levels, internally and externally, with a high attention to detail. A competent level of relevant IT skills including using AutoCAD/Revit.
