Construction Design Manager
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Construction Design Manager to lead the coordination and delivery of design information across a range of residential and commercial construction projects. This role is ideal for a candidate with an architectural background who understands the full design lifecycle--from concept through technical delivery--and can effectively manage multi-disciplinary design teams to ensure projects are delivered to the highest standards.
The successful candidate will act as the key interface between clients, architects, consultants, and construction teams, ensuring that design intent is maintained while meeting programme, budget, compliance, and buildability requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the design process from pre-construction through to completion.
Coordinate architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialist design packages.
Review design information for completeness, technical accuracy, compliance, and alignment with project brief.
Develop and manage design programmes, ensuring timely delivery of information to support project milestones.
Facilitate design workshops, technical reviews, and clash-resolution sessions.
Ensure all design work adheres to planning conditions, building regulations, CDM requirements, and industry standards.
Work closely with construction teams to resolve design queries and improve buildability and value engineering opportunities.
Manage consultant appointments, deliverables, and performance.
Maintain design risk registers, document control procedures, and approval workflows.
Support tender processes with design information, clarifications, and risk assessments.
Ensure the quality of design outputs aligns with company standards and client expectations.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, or a related design discipline.
Proven experience as a Design Manager, Project Architect, or Senior Architectural Technologist within construction or architectural practice.
Strong understanding of UK Building Regulations, planning policy, and construction methodology.
Excellent communication, coordination, and stakeholder-management skills.
Ability to interpret drawings, technical documents, and specifications.
Experience managing multidisciplinary design teams.
Proficiency in design and document-management platforms (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Viewpoint, Asite, etc.).
Desirable:
Experience working on residential, commercial, or mixed-use developments.
Understanding of design responsibilities under CDM (Principal Designer duties).
Experience in value engineering and buildability assessment.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: 30,000.00-45,000.00 per year
