Unitech Engineering Ltd based in Burntwood - Staffordshire, are looking for a
Design Office Manager - Conveyors.
We are a leading supplier of high-quality stainless steel and aluminium equipment for the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and other hygiene conscious industries, specialising in Material Handling and Conveyors.
Role Overview:
Reporting directly to and working closely with the Technical Sales Manager this role is responsible for managing, mentoring and developing a team of mechanical conveyor designers. You will oversee the development of existing and new stainless-steel equipment for the Unitech Industries group, the main focus will be to develop and manage our range of Conveyor Systems from point of sale through to manufacture and installation. Additionally, this role requires the successful candidate to assist with the design and development of cost-effective design solutions to customer satisfaction. Other duties involved in the role are as follows:
Main duties will include:
Oversee the design within the Unitech range, these include Modular belt Conveyors, Slat Conveyors, Belt Conveyors, Vibratory Conveyors and Power Roller Conveyors.
Support projects from concept through to manufacturing and installation.
Oversee and spearhead value engineering over the full product range.
Manage design resources, planning and departmental KPI's
Assist with training and developing current and potential new employees.
Work closely with the Project, Production and Sales Mangers to meet targets and maintain project deliverables.
Produce engineering drawings as per customer requirements in terms of standards, cost and time.
Assist with Project Management which will require liaising with the Production Department and Customers on a daily basis for regular updates for completion of contracts, attending regular reviews and design meetings as required on or off site.
Manage your own workload ensuring adherence to the approval and manufacture schedule agreed with Production and Customers.
Assist in the implementation of next step developments of systems and work practices within the Design Office.
Carry out site visits as and when required.
To be proactive, ensuring all jobs are on target.
Supervise the design team to ensure drawings are issued on time.
To Check accuracy of drawings prior to use.
Ensure all designs have a focus on cost and quality and meet strict food safety and hygienic standards
Work closely with production, including programmers.
Resolve issues speedily.
Lead continuous improvement in design.
Take a leading role in the office to maintain professionalism.
Deal with disciplinary issues within the design team.
Assist with any other duties as required by the business in line with your skill set and experience.
Skills & Experience Required:
To be considered for this role you must have a strong design background in conveyor and handling systems.
AutoCAD, 2D, and/or Solidworks and 3D (or similar considered) experience is a prerequisite
Experience in the design and implementation of conveyors and conveyor systems in one or all of the following is essential Meat, Poultry and Fish, Bakery, Can / Bottling, Sandwich, End of line packing systems (Warehouse)
Good knowledge of Automation within the conveyor sector
Must be a problem solver.
No fear of exploring innovative design.
Must be able to work equally as well as part of a team or on your own.
Be able to agree and meet reasonable time scales for the work required.
Pay attention to detail and quality with a continuous improvement mind set and ability to multitask.
