Design Technology Technician

Job Description

We are looking for a confident and motivated individual to join our team of Technicians to support our Design and Technology Department. Design and Technology is taught and supported by a large team of well-qualified specialist teachers and dedicated technicians. The entire team successfully works together to create a challenging and broad programme of study at Key Stages 3 and 4 to cover all aspects of the Design and Technology curriculum.

The role of DT Technician is pivotal in the running of the department and the successful candidate must have a can-do attitude, and be a keen team player and self-motivated. Hours



36 hours per week to be worked over 5 days

39 weeks per year Term Time only

Key Responsibilities



Ensure sufficient materials are ready for projects; including ordering in good time and cutting to size

Set up machines ready for projects

Manage ordering and equipment inventories

Assist students with cutting requirements and during lessons as appropriate

Assist D & T teachers as required

Daily maintenance of workshop machine and tools

Organise annual maintenance of machine tools

Annual testing of various D&T equipment

Check Health & Safety issues

Day-to-day maintenance within Curriculum Area and school as required

Keep workshops and cutting room tidy and free from safety hazards

Key Skills



Excellent knowledge of workshop machines and laser cutters with the associated software is desirable but full training can be provided.

Proficient with D&T Power machines.

Use of computer for data entry & general IT

Working knowledge of CAD computerised machines. Training can be provided.

Engineering, welding & woodworking skills are desirable

Good knowledge of H & S and COSHH requirements

Good at solving problems and coming up with creative solutions

Excellent customer service, negotiation and communication skills

Practical and resourceful

Self-motivated

Training



Training will be provided in school and externally, if deemed necessary to the role

Organised and must be able to prioritise, multi task, work under pressure and to deadlines

Able to relate, communicate and empathise with students and staff across the school and the Multi Academy Trust

Enhanced DBS clearance

Additional Duties and Responsibilities



To support and encourage the school's ethos and its objectives, policies and procedures as agreed by the governing body

To uphold the school's policy in respect of child protection matters

First Aid as required

Admin as required

Back up for other roles as required

Ad hoc duties as required

Pay: 24,420.00-30,369.00 per year
