Position overview:
?
Optimas?is looking for an energetic and enthusiastic?Cold Heading Tool Designer?on a permanent basis, to assist the?Technical Department.
The role is designed to support the Technical Department in all aspects of tooling and product design, to ensure the department is always operating with maximum speed and efficiency.
The position is based at our state-of-the-art UK Manufacturing site in Droitwich.?

Main responsibilities:
?
The?Tool Designer?will be responsible for:
Creating, updating and issuing of accurate component process drawings
Design of all necessary tooling and gauges to ensure efficient production of components including heading and secondary operations tools
Producing accurate tool assembly bills of material for the Purchasing and Tooling Departments
Accurate record keeping of associated computer systems to incorporate all component history and technical/tooling data
Liaising with and between CSD, Tech, Production Planning, Tooling, Heading, Rolling, Sec-Ops, Cleaning, QAD, Subcons and Despatch Departments in close alliance with Department Heads to achieve all targets
Investigating and/or assisting with, research into new production methods and tooling design/construction
Working closely with all departments on all tooling/technical matters
Discussion with suppliers regarding specifications/tolerances and improvement etc.
To attend regular quality, production and APQP meetings as required
?Skills and Qualifications:
Eagerness to learn and develop a career within tool design.
Experience/skill in engineering, preferably in cold forging/fastener environment
Essential Ability to build relationships across the business?at all levels
Knowledge of and or working familiarity with IATF 16949 and ISO 9001, SPC, FMEA, and other relevant standards.
Knowledge of wire/rod steel characteristics and behaviour (forgeability/machinability) Preferred.
Knowledge of heat treatments and plating processes
Technical drawing skills essential, tool design experience desirable
Capabilities and limitations of various cold forging/rolling plant
Liaison and technical negotiations with customers.
Computer (CAD) literacy, AutoCAD, Inventor etc.
Technically intuitive?- Ability to learn new systems quickly
Understanding and reading Engineering drawings to BS 8888
Good comprehension of the characteristics and performance of tools and their design in cold forging
