The urgent treatment centre at Lymington is currently sees more than 36,000 patients with minor injury and illness presentations. The service has a 'Outstanding' rating with the CQC.

Development Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) for the Urgent Treatment Centre

based in Lymington

.

Your shifts will consist of shifts comprising of twelve-hours (thirteen hours including two 30-minute unpaid meal breaks). The role involves working closely and in support of nurse and paramedic practitioners, and general practitioners (GP)



In the first year you will be expected to develop your skills and qualify as a HCSW with the Care Certificate and complete the HCSW competency document evidencing your skills. The role will comprise of learning to:



Provide effective communication and care to patients of all ages, and backgrounds.
Work as part of a diverse multidisciplinary team and become an effective and dependable team member.
Support the clinicians to assist and manage medical emergencies and facilitate the early response of emergency services. This will also include undertaking training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), anaphylaxis and choking management.
Obtain clinical observations such as blood pressure, oxygen saturations, and complete 12 lead ECG.
Manage different types of acute wounds and burns.
Become proficient in plaster cast applications and splinting for varied fractures and differing age groups.
Completing of venepuncture training and obtaining patient bloods.
Play a key role in the completion of departmental checklists, ordering of stock/medication, and be responsible for the re-stocking of medical supplies to facilitate the smooth and safe running of the UTC.
Develop knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
Complete areas of clinical documentation using the Adastra documentation system.
Undertake training and provide support for the UTC reception team and use of relevant IT systems.

Excellent communication skills
Good literacy and numeracy skills with GCSE in English and Maths (or equivalent)
Excellent listening skills and a positive, hard-working attitude, and team player.
Honest, open to feedback, willing to learn and develop.
Flexibility to adapt to the ever-changing situation demands of the shift.
Availability to work 0800-2100 shifts (with 2 x 30 min unpaid break) as part of a rolling rota, to include weekends and bank holidays.
Successful completion of a disclosure and barring service (DBS) background check.
