The Team:




CoinShares deploys discretionary and systematic, computer-driven trading strategies across digital assets, cryptocurrencies and derivatives. We have a proven and profitable track record in proprietary trading and are developing novel hedge fund strategies to complement our world-leading ETP & ETF business.


The Engineering team is responsible for all aspects of software development for the firm, including platform engineering, quant engineering, and ML and AI infrastructure and implementation. As part of a nimble team in a growing organisation, you will be collaborating and developing real time solutions with your colleagues on a constant basis.



Our technical stack runs in a microservices architecture with Golang and Python services deployed on AWS alongside a Java/React user interface. We connect with our proprietary platform, MATRIX, to 15+ trading venues managing hundreds of millions of messages and orders per day. You will continue to scale and improve this platform as crypto gains further prominence at the heart of the world financial ecosystem.

Role Profile:




We are seeking a driven and experienced Engineering Lead to join our team in our London office. The successful candidate will lead the development, architecture and implementation of complex trading and quant engineering solutions for the systematic and discretionary trading of Cryptocurrencies and other instruments. They will also pro-actively support, and develop, market data and analytics to disseminate ETP ETF data. This is a role which encourages passion, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.


You will be responsible for leading the delivery of well-engineered, resilient and performant solutions that take full advantage of market opportunities. This includes driving a culture of high-quality code and rapid, responsive delivery whilst leading and mentoring a team of engineers in London and India. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the financial industry and particularly, trading. Experience in a proprietary trading firm or a hedge fund will be a distinct advantage.

Responsibilities:



Responsible for maintaining a unified technical architecture for the firm, and deputising for the Head of Engineering as required. Technical implementation of the quant research environment and all data used in trading and quant research, including data used in Machine Learning and AI and the infrastructure to fully exploit the signals within. Lead and inspire a team of engineers to deliver solutions for Traders, Quants and Operations. Oversee team development and performance, ensuring business objectives and goals are successfully achieved. Innovate for opportunities to improve development speed and quality including automation and AI process improvement. Lead the design of low-latency services and data pipelines. Ensure scalability, reliability, and performance across all components and consistency and maintainability across firmwide technology. Contribute directly to backend systems in Golang and Python, optimizing for performance and fault tolerance. Collaborate with quants to integrate and optimise ML models for trading strategy innovation. Work closely with traders, quants, cybersecurity, and operations to align technical solutions with business and risk requirements. Cloud Operations through oversight of deployments on AWS. Provision of robust project management and timelines are met in a high quality / low risk approach. Lead code reviews. Problem solving and disruption management under pressure which will require out-of-hours monitoring and intervention across the team.

Skills & Qualifications:



Education:

Minimum 2.1 Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, STEM or a related field.

Experience:

Preferably a minimum of 10 years of front-office tech experience, including a minimum of 5 years leading a team.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in Golang or an object-oriented language such as C++, Java, as well as Python. Strong understanding of cloud infrastructure (preferably AWS) and microservices architecture. Knowledge and experience of working with CI/CD and DevOps pipelines and automated deployment.

Industry Knowledge:

Strong understanding of the financial industry, ideally in the area of trading.

with proven ability to pragmatically multi-task in a pressurised environment

Analytical Skills:

Ability to analyse user and system behaviour and translate insights into actionable design and efficiency improvements.

Communication:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.

Stakeholder Management:

Demonstrated capability for identifying and managing critical stakeholders, partners and team members.

Collaboration:

Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team environment.

Accuracy:

High attention to detail and a passion for creating exceptional trading environments.

Learning Mindset:

Ability to see opportunities for improvement from all kinds of situations and events, for the benefit of the business, the team, and the individual.

It would preferable to have:



Interest and experience in quantitative modelling, algorithmic and systematic trading strategies, especially in a crypto environment. * Experience of using agile methodologies, project management, wiki and collaboration tools.
