We are looking for a

Development Manager, Individuals

to help realise the fundraising strategy for Somerset House Trust. As a charity who does not receive any regular public funding, income from fundraising is especially important for Somerset House. We have ambitious plans to increase philanthropic giving from individuals, and the post holder will be central to realising those ambitions in close collaboration with the Head of Development.

Somerset House is an inspiring cause to support, and there is a real opportunity to create rewarding associations with individual donors and philanthropists across activity including public programming, artist studios and our work developing pathways for young people into the creative industries. The Development Manager, Individuals will have a systematic approach to identifying prospects, building a pipeline of potential supporters, and donor stewardship and engagement in support of Somerset House's priorities, ambitions and charitable purpose.

What we are looking for:



Individual Giving

Lead on Somerset House's initiatives to cultivate philanthropic support from individuals - including major donors, regular giving and one-off donations - in order to reach annual fundraising targets Solicit donations from individuals at the four, five and six-figure level Grow and manage a personal portfolio of constituents, using systematic processes and solicitation plans for the identification, cultivation and stewardship of donors and prospects Lead on the management and growth of giving schemes such as the Supporters' Court, looking for opportunities to develop and improve the individual giving portfolio Produce well-crafted and persuasive written proposals Working with the Head of Development, devise and deliver a strategy for raising awareness of legacy giving amongst donors and audiences


Cultivation, Stewardship and Events

Provide outstanding donor care, developing and maintaining positive relationships with supporters Work with the Development Coordinator to deliver strategic and impactful donor communications - in print, online and via email - in order to build affinity and encourage philanthropic support Work with colleagues across the department to shape an appealing programme of year-round events that give donors and prospects the opportunity to get closer to our work

Operations & Data

Line manage the Development Coordinator, developing their skills to support the smooth running of the Development team Negotiate and issue gift agreements and with the Development Coordinator, ensure all benefits, crediting and reporting is fulfilled as per donor requirements Provide regular reports, updates and analysis on Individual Giving, including financial reporting and pipeline analysis Ensure that all activities are compliant with the Fundraising Code of Practice, GDPR and HMRC's Gift Aid regulation, as well as Somerset House's own Gift Acceptance Policy Record all relationships, activity, pledges, donations and gift aid declarations promptly and accurately on Tessitura Working with the Development Coordinator, research prospects in accordance with due diligence processes and produce detailed donor reports to support cultivation and engagement


Skills, knowledge & expertise required for the role:



Experience

Demonstrable track record of cultivating individual donors, working to fundraising targets and securing gifts at the four and five-figure level Evidence of successful delivery of donor stewardship and cultivation activity Experience of managing individual giving schemes Excellent working knowledge of fundraising best practice, including GDPR and the Fundraising Regulator's Code of Practice

Skills

Excellent written skills with the ability to craft fundraising asks Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, tailoring delivery to suit different audiences Ability to negotiate effectively at all levels Meticulous attention to detail Tact and discretion Strong networking skills and ability to build relationships at a variety of different levels Willingness to work collaboratively to strengthen and implement Somerset House's Development strategy and to shape compelling funding proposals Excellent administration skills and ability to manage a wide and varied workload Confident CRM system user, ideally Tessitura
