About the role
As a Development Underwriter within the Lloyd's London Market, you will play a pivotal role in driving profitable growth through strategic underwriting, broker engagement, and portfolio development. Your primary focus will be underwriting new business and developing broker relationships, while also managing renewals as part of your portfolio and contributing to the evolution of underwriting strategy within your line of business.
About You
Underwriting & Risk Assessment:
Evaluate and underwrite risks in accordance with underwriting guidelines and Lloyd's standards.
Ensure pricing adequacy and profitability across the portfolio.
Maintain awareness of claims trends and loss ratios to inform underwriting decisions.
Business Development:
Identify and pursue new business opportunities in collaboration with brokers
Develop and maintain strong relationships with key brokers in the Lloyd's market and independent broker network.
Represent the Cover holders at market events.
Portfolio Management:
Monitor and analyse portfolio performance, identifying areas for improvement or growth.
Contribute to the development of underwriting strategy and product innovation.
Support the planning and forecasting process.
Collaboration & Mentorship:
Partner with the underwriting department to drive collective growth and strengthen team capabilities.
Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and operations teams to ensure cohesive portfolio management.
Who we're looking for
Proven underwriting or broking experience in the Lloyd's or London market, with a focus on casualty lines, ideally including but not limited to, medical Malpractice.
Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
Experience with regulatory frameworks.
ACII qualification or progress toward it is preferred.
