Job Description

Based at Stepping Hill Hospital, the successful applicant will work within a dynamic and caring team of Dietitians, Specialist Dietitians and Clinical Lead Dietitians, another Dietetic Support Worker and administrator.
The post holder will be a committed member of the clinical team delivering a service to optimise the provision of nutrition to our patients and contribute to the effective working processes within the dietitian team and wider hospital. They will also work directly with patients on hospital wards to assess and collect information to assist the dietitians with assessments and review of the patients.
Support is provided through the opportunity to work directly with experienced and specialist clinicians across the team.
Main duties of the job
The Integrated Nutrition and Dietetic Service is based across acute and community settings. This primarily based in Stepping Hill Hospital in Stockport.
The Dietetic Support Worker assists the dietitians in certain aspects of this work including:
Liaising with the dietitians and following plans of care for patient follow up
Actively participate within group education under the supervision of the dietitian.
Data entry regarding product orders
Assisting with the daily supply of dietetic products to wards and departments
A working knowledge of different products and their clinical use is required.
Assisting selected patients on the wards to choose preferred and clinically suitable food and drinks, under the supervision of a dietitian.
Responsible for the service ordering of supplies and consumables.
To ensure stock rotation/monitoring, processing electronic orders, liaison with Stores Department as appropriate.

Office administration. Provide cover for some secretarial duties during leave
Assist with the supply of therapeutic dietary products and equipment to the service.
Check stock deliveries against delivery notes where required.
Assist the dietitians with monitoring of product supplier company performance against contract.
Assist dietitians with the arrangements for patients on tube feeds.
This may include completing computerised registration for the home feed service, telephone calls and faxes to GP surgeries, liaison with community dietitians and the home feed service company. Enter data as needed into log tables.
Assist certain patients on the wards to choose and consume clinically appropriate food and drinks from the relevant therapeutic diet menu under the supervision of a dietitian.
Provide follow-up support to selected patients who have been seen first by the dietitian and monitor nutritional care plan
Provide support to dietitians regarding future menu development
Gather information for referrals made to the dietitian
Actively participate within group education under the supervision of the dietitian
Attend Trust mandatory training.
Attend and participate in meetings as required
Provide training on malnutrition universal screening tool where required.
Attend catering meetings
Support nutritional analysis using computer software, where required
Participate in mealtime observation audits
Adhere to the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and British Dietetic Association (BDA) Standards of Proficiency and Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct
Understand the scope of the role and know the limits of practice and when to seek advice.
The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment and promote safeguarding by implementing the Trusts policies and procedures, acting promptly on concerns, communicating effectively and sharing information appropriately.
If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of 54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary
In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of 16.
