Job summary




We are looking for a Digital Archivist to join our Parliamentary Knowledge and Information Office (PKI) at House of Lords. This is a position based in the Collections Development and Access team within PKI and reporting to the Senior Archivist who oversees digital archiving and preservation of closed material, this role's focus is overseeing the day-to-day collection management work for digital collections.


This includes planning and managing the preparation, cataloguing and transfer work to The National Archives (TNA) at Kew, co-ordinating key projects, overseeing the digital collections logistics whilst they are held within PKI's custody and once transferred to TNA, and aligning work where necessary with the Archivist overseeing the management of physical collections. They will provide supervision and support to PKI colleagues engaging with digital selection and transfer work.


This is an opportunity to work on a hybrid basis where you will be able to work 2-3 days from home and other days on-site at Parliament! This is an exciting opportunity for someone that would enjoy innovating and establishing new processes, as we develop our new digital preservation function and our relationship with The National Archives.

Job description



You'll be accountable for/to:




o Selection and acquisition of digital records into PKI's custody, supporting future workflow development as appropriate and analysing the requirements of new digital transfers.

o Maintain the systems and repository, tools and storage used for management of digital content prior to transfer to TNA. This will include content management, generation and analysis of reports and logs, capacity planning, testing of new functionality, helping to analyse issues and liaison with Digital Service and suppliers as required for support.

o Safeguard the future of digital archiving and preservation services in Parliament by identifying requirements for development and enhancement of both TNA supplied and third-party digital preservation tools and services.

o Support the Senior Archivist in the management of the digital archiving function, including: preservation planning, technology watch, testing and certification of new tools and implementing preservation actions.

o Liaise with TNA for management of Parliament Web Archive, including take-down requests, one-off captures and maintaining the list of Parliamentary web content we capture.

o Train and support PKI staff in use of tools such as the digital repository, TDR and other aspects of digital archiving.

Person specification



What we're looking for:




o Digital preservation skills.

o Archives and/or information management experience.

o Excellent Communication and engagement skills.

o A recognised postgraduate qualification in Archives & Records Management or a related discipline.
