Background
Campus Services (CS) employs over 1,000 staff with a turnover exceeding 65m in the last financial year. CS plays a key role in the quality of the student, staff and visitor experience, providing services across diverse areas such as the University's sporting facilities, food and beverage, cleaning, conferencing, hotel operations, day nurseries, portering, post, branded and own-brand retail outlets, visitor services and attractions (e.g., Winterbourne House & Gardens), student housing, transport, waste disposal and recycling. CS is a highly commercial organisation operating within the University context and has an ambitious strategic agenda, in terms of growing our service profile across both our Birmingham and Dubai campuses.
Role Summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic Digital Marketing Officer to join our busy team of marketing & communication specialists and graphic designers. You will have relevant experience working within a digital marketing role including thorough knowledge of email marketing, CMS and website management, analytics, SEO and paid advertising.
You will utilise various digital channels including paid search, email, and social media marketing to achieve business objectives aligned with the Campus Services strategy. You should have good integrated marketing experience, with up-to-date and extensive understanding of best practice within the digital marketing landscape.
You will also be responsible for maintaining and delivering enhancements to a suite of websites including: University of Birmingham (including intranet), Conferences & Events, Day Nurseries, Student Accommodation, Food Fellows, Winterbourne House and Garden, and Edgbaston Park Hotel and Conference Centre.
Main Duties
Develop and deliver digital marketing campaigns across a varied portfolio within the Campus Services (CS) division.
Plan, execute, and report on all email marketing activity within the division.
Manage content across multiple CMS platforms, ensuring timely updates and continual optimisation of our website portfolio.
Maintain and update CS content on the University's main website and internal intranet.
Use analytics tools such as GA4 to extract insights and recommend improvements for website performance.
Lead on all PPC and paid media initiatives within the team, tracking events and ROI through GTM.
Collect and analyse campaign and performance data to identify patterns and uncover opportunities to enhance impact.
Monitor and report on digital marketing performance, evaluating outcomes against key objectives such as ROI.
Improve website SEO by implementing best practices across on-page, off-page, and technical SEO.
Collaborate with the Social Media & Content Officer to support both paid and organic social media campaigns, including content creation and scheduling via tools like Hootsuite.
Analyse customer insights, market trends, and competitor activity to inform strategic recommendations.
Work closely with the Digital Marketing Manager and Social Media & Content Officer to represent and support the CS digital marketing function.
Build strong working relationships with colleagues across the CS Marketing & Communications team and the broader CS division.
Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends, recommending new tools or approaches as appropriate.
Educated to Degree level (or equivalent qualifications) plus relevant practical experience in digital marketing.
Evidence of literacy and numeracy, with the ability to write clearly, and to produce and analyse information and data.
Evidence of creative skills with experience of using these to identify target audiences and devise digital campaigns that engage, inform and motivate.
Hands on experience with HTML, CSS and content management systems.
Understanding of marketing automation technology.
Extensive understanding and experience of email marketing.
Demonstrable experience using web analytics software.
A clear understanding of SEO/SEM best practices, email marketing and display advertising campaigns including use of GTM.
Experience in optimising websites and landing pages.
An in-depth understanding of digital best practice and UX/UI web design.
The ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines via excellent organisation, planning and administrative skills.
Ability to self-motivate and work constructively with a wide variety of stakeholders and colleagues.
Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly.
An understanding of project management practices is desirable, including the use of project management software such.

You will be required to work independently on daily, weekly and monthly tasks but also on projects with medium-longer-term horizons without daily supervision.
