About the role

You will be responsible for specimen digitisation to support the Museum\xe2\x80\x99s work within the Digital, Data and Informatics Theme. As a digitiser you will work directly with the rest of the Digitisation Team, museum collections, curatorial teams, Data Management Team to capture digital images of specimens and their associated data.

As a member of the Digitisation Team you will represent the museum in tours and official events. You will also get the opportunity to present your work, create digitisation content for social media and articles including blogs, datasets, and printed articles.

Role competencies:

Demonstrable experience in the field of natural sciences, or a strongly related discipline.

Demonstrable experience of collections digitisation, recuration or conservation projects (or relevant transferable experience).

Good working knowledge of collections metadata and collection management systems (or relevant transferable experience).

Good working knowledge of working in the cloud with either Office 365 or Google Docs suite.

Experience and/or knowledge of checking and verifying data either in documents, spreadsheets, databases, scientific literature or other sources.

Ability to work as part of a team.

Demonstrable manual dexterity for handling small and fragile collections objects.

Demonstrable attention to detail and ability to follow complex instructions/workflows.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

Handling and digitising specimens to support the work of the wider Digitisation Team. This includes photography, transcription, georeferencing and databasing.

Trialling new collection digitisation workflow methods and tools.

Recording accurate information about digitisation workflows for project/programme evaluation and monitoring.

Sharing digitisation best practices with internal stakeholders and project partners via reports, posters and presentations (e.g. at project board, internal seminars and potentially conferences).

Supporting curators, researchers and other team members in publishing specimen datasets, and research papers

Contribute to the team\xe2\x80\x99s wider communication and social media content.
