Job Overview


The Diocese of Salisbury is seeking three individuals to join its Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC). Each will hold expertise in either building accessibility, architecture or heating systems, respectively. The main role of a Committee Member is to contribute to DAC meetings, offering professional or lay expertise in matters relating to church buildings, liturgy, or heritage. Committee Members also review and comment on proposals for works submitted by parishes, ensuring a balance between the needs of worship, mission, heritage, and sustainability. Advice is given to parishes during the development of proposals to ensure projects are viable and align with legal requirements.

Duration:

2 years with opportunity to extend a further 6 years.

Team

: Church Buildings Team (part of the Mission and Ministry Team)

Candidates will need to have a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle to carry out their role.

Role commitments:



The Committee meets at least nine times per year for 2-3 hours. Meetings are held virtually with three in person spread throughout the year. In fulfilling the requirements of the DAC, members occasionally attend site visits and advise on matters relevant to their expertise via email.

Accessibility Specialist


The Diocese is seeking an individual with professional expertise and/or lived experience in accessibility to join the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC). This voluntary role involves advising on the care, development, and adaptation of church buildings, with a particular focus on promoting inclusive and accessible environments for all users, in accordance with the Equality Act 2010 and Church of England guidance.

Architect


The Diocese is seeking an individual with professional expertise in architecture to join the Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC). To provide expert architectural advice as a member of the Diocesan Advisory Committee, supporting the care, conservation, and development of church buildings in line with the Church's mission, statutory obligations, and the Faculty Jurisdiction system.

Heating Specialist


The Diocese is seeking an individual with expertise in heating systems--particularly low-carbon and sustainable technologies--to join its Diocesan Advisory Committee (DAC). This voluntary role focuses on advising parishes and the DAC on appropriate heating solutions for church buildings that align with the Church of England's net zero carbon commitments and the practical needs of worship and community use.
