We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to join Imperial College London as our Director of Employee Relations and Policy. This is a pivotal role within our People Leadership Team, responsible for shaping and delivering our employee relations and policy strategies to support a positive, inclusive, and high-performing workplace culture.

What you would be doing

---------------------------

In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and implementation of employee relations and policy strategies that reflect Imperial's values and strategic ambitions. As the University's expert on employee relations, you will provide high-level advice to senior leaders, manage complex and sensitive cases, and ensure compliance with employment law and best practice.

Utilising your stakeholder management skills, a key part of your role will be to build and nurture constructive, collaborative relationships with our recognised trade unions, fostering a culture of mutual respect and shared purpose. You'll work closely with internal stakeholders and governance committees to shape a positive employee relations climate, while also driving improvements in our casework model, policy frameworks, and wellbeing initiatives.

As a leader, you'll guide and develop the Employee Relations and Policy teams, championing a culture of continuous improvement, inclusion, and high performance across the People Function.

What we are looking for

---------------------------

We're looking for someone who can bring strategic insight, operational excellence, and strong leadership. You should have:

Fellowship of the CIPD (or willingness to work towards it). Degree-level education or equivalent experience. Significant experience in employee relations, including managing complex cases and working with trade unions. A strong track record in HR policy development and implementation. Experience in a senior HR leadership role within a complex organisation. In-depth knowledge of employment law and its practical application. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. The ability to influence, coach, and build trusted relationships at all levels.

What we can offer you

-------------------------

At Imperial, you'll be part of a world-leading institution that values respect, collaboration, excellence, integrity, and innovation. We offer:

A supportive and inclusive working environment. Opportunities for professional development and career progression. Access to a wide range of staff benefits, including generous annual leave, pension schemes, and wellbeing support.
