The Director of International Commercial Training & Capabilities is a member of the Global Insights, Analytics & Commercial Operations (GIACO) International Leadership Team, based in Vertex's International HQ in London Paddington. The position is responsible for leading the training & capabilities team within the International Commercial organization, developing and delivering a training strategy for commercial teams across the region, with a particular focus on field teams. This individual leads a team of employees, which may include contractors and vendors, coordinating these resources closely within the department and cross functionally to deliver against training needs to achieve corporate goals.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Member of the GIACO International Leadership Team
Sets vision and strategy for the role of training & capabilities for the International region
Provides leadership to employees and contractors/vendors, ensuring the team is clear on priorities, coached to exceptional performance, and can collaborate exceptionally well with cross functional partners
Manages training & capabilities portfolio of work including external budget, focusing on initiatives core to departmental goals
Conducts performance analyses to accurately diagnose and identify the skill/knowledge gaps required to support competencies
Conducts training needs assessments and designs continuous learning initiatives consistent with findings and needs for commercial field teams
Proactively conducts on-going communications with IHQ, Country and Global stakeholders to identify training needs and develop specific training objectives and strategies to meet those needs
Represents Training & Development in brand and business planning
Manages the identification and selection of vendors as well as manage subsequent relationships and projects relating to field training
Stays abreast of learning, training and development best practices and current trends in pharmaceutical and life science industries - utilizing current advances within digital, live, and virtual platforms
Champions appropriate behaviours and continuously compliant environment; role models integrity & ethics

Experience in coaching and inspiring a team towards clear goals and hold accountable for results
Ability to lead and influence others in diverse settings with a spirit of continuous development
Experience in developing and delivering training and capabilities solutions
Skilled at working in a fast paced, evolving environment with attention to detail, committed follow-through, and highly developed judgement in making business decisions

Ability to communicate and influence across all levels of the organization
Ability to anticipate opportunities and challenges to proactively shape strategy and execution of training & development

Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage complex projects that require collaboration across functional and geographic areas
Strong leadership, collaboration and management competencies and business acumen
Proven project management and organisational skills
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree with a preference for an advanced degree in business or sciences
The individual will have one or more of the following:
+ Significant specialty pharmaceutical / biotechnology sales training experience (or equivalent leadership position within organization) or,
+ Significant specialty pharmaceutical / biotechnology Marketing or Sales experience Preferred experience in rare diseases, cell and genetic therapies and/or hospital-based selling
International/above-market experience
Experience in adult education principles including competency modelling preferred
Ability to travel domestically and internationally as required
