Description:
Working Together for Merthyr Tydfil
An exciting and rare opportunity to join a passionate, collaborative and forward-thinking team, dedicated to delivering exceptional education services that truly reflect and support our communities.
Merthyr Tydfil County Borough may be the smallest local authority in Wales, but we are big on ambition, innovation and impact. Due to the planned retirement of our current postholder in April 2026, we are now seeking a credible and inspiring individual to take on the pivotal role of Director of Education to lead our Learning Directorate and continue our upward trajectory in raising standards and aspirations. With education as a top priority, this strategic role offers the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of children and young people across the borough.
You'll be joining a close knit and committed Corporate Management Team, working alongside school leaders, elected members, and partners to shape and deliver our education strategy. With a newly inhouse school improvement service, a strong focus on community focused schools, and the new GCSE framework underway, this is a moment of real momentum, and we are looking for someone who can help us build on it.
Alongside the education brief you will ensure compliance with Welsh Language Standards and national legislation. You will also oversee the statutory Library service and Museum Service, and play a key role in further developing these as part of the Council's core operations.
A role like this does not appear often, therefore if you have the experience, value-set and vision to further shape the future of education in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, we want to hear from you.
