Director of History

-----------------------

Job description

Delta Academies Trust are looking to appoint a Director of History to join our team in January 2026 on a full time, permanent basis.

Are you looking for a role that will enable you to influence and give direction to the children in your classes? Do you want to work for a Trust that is transforming educational outcomes for students in some of the most deprived areas in the North of England? If so, this could be the role for you.

Your new role

At Delta Academies Trust we believe history is more than a subject -- it is the story of humanity, the foundation of identity, and the key to understanding our place in the world. As a high-performing multi-academy trust with a track record of exemplary outcomes, our vision is bold: to revolutionise education across all our schools, changing lives and shaping futures. We know that strong leadership, inspiring teaching, and a supportive community can unlock the potential of every young person -- and history lies at the heart of that mission.

As the Director of History, you will lead a subject that empowers students to think critically, question deeply, and understand the forces that have shaped societies past and present. You'll guide and mentor history departments across our trust, cultivating a culture of intellectual curiosity, high achievement, and a genuine love for the subject. Your work will be about more than raising standards -- it will be about inspiring young historians who are confident readers, thoughtful citizens, and creative thinkers.

At Delta Academies Trust, our shared history curriculum ensures that every child, in every academy, experiences a rich and coherent journey through the past. From the ancient world to modern times, students encounter diverse perspectives and challenging debates. Reading is at the heart of this journey: through powerful historical texts, original sources, and engaging narratives, students learn not only to retrieve knowledge but to grapple with complexity, evaluate interpretations, and construct their own arguments. We see reading as the gateway to deep historical understanding and the spark that ignites independent thought.

Our approach is designed to foster curiosity, fluency, and progression. Each lesson begins with purposeful retrieval to secure core knowledge. Misconceptions are swiftly addressed, while new learning is carefully connected to wider historical narratives. Through analysis of texts, debates, and evaluative writing, students incrementally build the skills to interpret the past with sophistication. The result is a curriculum that is rigorous, inspiring, and transformative.

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity to make a lasting difference. You will join a dynamic team of subject directors and educational leaders, working collaboratively to drive excellence across the trust. As our Director of History, you will not only shape teaching and learning but also help shape the very way young people see themselves and their world.

If you are ready to bring your expertise, vision, and passion for history to a role that offers both challenge and reward, we would love to hear from you. Join us in our mission to ensure that every student, regardless of their starting point, has the knowledge, skills, and inspiration to thrive -- and to carry the lessons of history into the future.

If you require any further information, or would like an informal chat about the role, please contact Hayley Oakes on 07855 985862.
