The postholder reports to the Business Operations Director, is a key member of the Support Senior Leadership Team, provides regular reports to relevant


Governing Body Committees, and has line management responsibility for the 7 member IT team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES




Strategy & Planning:

Develop and lead the strategy and Planning implementation of a whole-school IT and digital strategy, aligned with St Helen's broader educational and operational goals. Work collaboratively with senior leadership, academic staff, and support teams to assess needs, identify innovation opportunities, and deliver change. Ensure St Helen's remains a leader in digital transformation by staying current with trends in education technology, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and systems. Contribute to school-wide strategic planning and risk management as a key member of the operational leadership team. implement plans and key performance indicators to ensure the school's IT capabilities remain at the cutting-edge within the sector. Develop long-term investment plans for acquiring and enabling efficient and cost-effective information systems and communication technologies. Maintain up to date knowledge of industry developments and best practice in the application of IT in an educational environment and produce regular updates to the Business Director and Education Committee. Lead departmental operations and strategic IT projects including the preparation of business cases, resource negotiation, planning, delivery, training and implementation. Prepare comprehensive and effective IT disaster recovery and business continuity plans and test their effectiveness on an annual basis. Develop and implement an in-service training programme to support both current and future systems and applications.

Digital Learning & Innovation



Support and enable the Director of Digital Learning in integrating effective digital tools in teaching and learning. Oversee the continual improvement of the school's learning platforms (e.g. Teams, OneNote, VLEs). Promote digital literacy among students and staff through initiatives, training, and the development of a digital learning culture. Monitor the social and academic impacts of digital technologies across the school community.

Operational IT Leadership



Lead and manage the IT Management Team and technical support team to ensure the effective delivery of day-to-day IT services.

Oversee the design and delivery of all IT infrastructure, networking, server systems, cloud platforms, and software applications.

Ensure all IT operations are efficient, secure, resilient, and user focused. Ensure that full and up-to-date documentation is maintained for the school's hardware, software and infrastructure systems and reviewed annually. Implement clear performance indicators to evaluate and continuously improve service quality.

Cybersecurity, Data Protection and Compliance



Oversee the school's Data Controller, ensuring compliance with data protection legislation including GDPR. Maintain robust cybersecurity protocols, including threat detection, monitoring, firewalls, endpoint protection and incident response. Ensure safe internet access, content filtering and monitoring in accordance with safeguarding requirements. Maintain and regularly test the school's Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan. Regularly review and update the school's Acceptable Use and related IT Policies with the Executive Team and familiarise all users with their content. Review and advise the Business Operations Director on the IT section of the Risk Register, identifying current and/or potential risks. In conjunction with the IT Operations Manager ensure the monitoring of all user accounts, network traffic and internet activities as appropriate and in accordance with school policy to ensure compliance with IT and Safeguarding principles and that appropriate security protocols are maintained across all levels of the school network. Ensure all members of the IT team receive regular and up-to-date training on safeguarding, data protection (including GDPR), and compliance to maintain a secure and legally compliant digital environment across the school.

Budget Management



Accountable for the Department budget. In conjunction with the IT Operations Manager, develop and implement day-to-day budgetary management and monitoring procedures for in year expenditure, reporting to the Finance Director as necessary.

Oversee the procurement, licensing, and support arrangements for all IT equipment and software.Develop long-term capital plans for IT investment, including life-cycle management of assets.

General

Promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people, by adhering to and ensuring compliance with the school's child protection

policy.Implement responsibilities as set out in the school's Health & Safety Policy. Assume other duties which may be reasonably required or delegated by the Head and the Business Director from time to time. Support and promote the school's ethos, strategic plans and objectives.
