Plumstead Manor School is a large, popular, diverse and inclusive secondary school in Greenwich with over 1500 students aged between 11 and 18. We have 240 students in each year group and 300 young people in the sixth form.
Our vision is based on the key principles of Pride, Ambition, Respect and Together, through which we can offer a world class education to the young people and families of Greenwich. Our recipe to achieve that is based on high quality teaching and academic rigour, in a safe and happy environment. Our priority is academic excellence such that students maximise their full potential and realise their ambitions. Alongside of this we want them to develop into articulate, confident and accomplished young people who leave school equipped with the powerful knowledge and necessary skills to change the world for the better.
Our curriculum offers a range of pathways, blending the mastery of knowledge with the development of transferable skills and see our young people progress onto a full range of future pathways including medicine and veterinary science, courses at the most competitive universities as well as high-quality apprenticeships.
The role
As Director of Science, you will be a member of the extended leadership group and take responsibility for one of the most important pathways for our young people. We are serious about the development of our staff and we see this role as an opportunity for an ambitious individual who is looking for their first experience of senior management with the opportunity to have profound whole-school impact. Alongside your departmental leadership role, we will look for opportunities for you to work more broadly on whole-school initiatives as part of your personal development.
Our Science department is well resourced and is a very popular pathway. We are successful in engaging students to pursue scientific pathways - we have healthy post 16 intake and are staffed with qualified specialists. This has allowed us to improve outcomes and develop a broad range of pathways for young people. These include nursing and midwifery through to engineering, medicine and veterinary science.
We are looking for someone who has drive, determination and is not afraid to challenge and will be passionate about securing the best possible education for our young people. We know our staff are our most important resource. As a result, professional development and well-being is vital to the success of the school and our young people.

Plumstead Manor is a thriving and popular secondary school located in the Royal Borough of Greenwich. There has been a school on our site since 1913, with the first 105 years as a girls' school. In response to local demand we admitted our first mixed cohort in 2018 and gradually move to being fully co-educational by 2022.
We are a large, inclusive, comprehensive school and have capacity for 1,500 students aged 11-18. We have our own Sixth Form of around 300 students and welcome students from our own cohort as well as students from within the local area. Our students progress onto the full range of future pathways, including medicine and veterinary science courses at the most competitive universities and high-quality apprenticeships.
