Do you have a passion for Sustainability? Are you ready to own the journey to Net Zero and integrate sustainability into the DNA of a major UK brand? Can you lead strategy, drive operational results, and champion cultural change for our "Better Future" plan? If this sounds like you, our Director of Sustainability position might be your perfect next opportunity.
What's it all about?
This role leads the agenda on sustainability and owns the delivery of Travelodge's associated Better Future plan. It also ensures robust programme governance, KPI tracking, overall sustainability reporting, and supports the progress of the supply chain sustainability programme.
Day to day you will oversee and manage:
Drive the "Better Future" Plan to hit all agreed KPIs and workstreams. Hold direct responsibility for the Conscious pillar (environment, carbon, circularity and supply chain sustainability) and collaborate with other business owners to deliver the Caring and Inclusive pillars (social/people).
Lead the Net Zero program and manage all projects underpinning this ambition. Coordinate with external energy consultants and ensure effective sustainability communication with all stakeholders. Lead all mandatory reporting requirements.
Own the "Better Future" strategy, serving as the expert on sustainability changes and risks that affect Travelodge. Proactively develop risk mitigation strategies across all internal and external stakeholder groups. Conduct an annual strategic review and report all findings and recommendations to the Chief Financial Officer and Sustainability Committee.
Champion sustainability as a core value by building strong internal relationships across all levels to promote communication and innovation. Embed the "in all things we do" mentality throughout the business. Support this by preparing and presenting papers to the quarterly Steering Groups and Sustainability Committee meetings.
Why Travelodge?
We believe in creating an inclusive workplace where everyone can be their true self and belong. We work hard to improve the diversity of our teams and celebrate our differences. And we care about our colleagues' wellbeing, so we ensure there are plenty of resources available so everyone can look after their emotional, physical, financial and work wellbeing. We call this "Better Me".
Who will this appeal to?
The successful candidate will have significant experience taking a diverse range of topics across a business and directly, and indirectly, driving the business to achieve them, whilst working to build cultural awareness on sustainability, ensuring it is considered "in everything we do".
You will have proven experience in energy management projects, carbon footprinting, external verification schemes such as SBTi and other science aligned frameworks. You will also have a very good understanding of wider sustainability topics and its social implications (i.e. social value, social impact, partnerships and community)
You will be an excellent communicator, strategic and methodical thinker and have great stakeholder management skills. This role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring a proactive, delivery-focused leader who can turn plans into action and bring people across the business on the journey.
An energy management or general sustainability qualification (i.e ISEP) is desirable but not essential.
