Job Summary



The Director, Technology plays a pivotal leadership role within the Group Internal Audit & Investigations (GIAI) COO function at Standard Chartered.

GIAI is in search of a highly motivated Director - Technology, passionate about envisioning the future as we reengineer and enhance our audit processes to create a world-leading function.

You will contribute to planning and implementing changes in GIAI, allowing the function to remain digital, risk-based, and commercially viable.

Reporting to GIAI's Chief Operating Officer (COO), the Director of Technology will manage and coordinate a dynamic and exciting change portfolio, ensuring the successful delivery of a variety of digital solutions for GIAI. The Director will oversee the end-to-end management and alignment of several GIAI projects, ensuring that business requirements are met through high-quality technology-based products and services. Additionally, the Director will assist the function in managing its data risks.

As a trusted leader, facilitator, innovator, challenger, and problem solver, the Director will guide and support a complex and deeply integrated array of business requirements toward successful delivery outcomes and objectives. Through thoughtful stakeholder engagement and effective governance and delivery mechanisms, the Director will address challenges, foster accountability across the portfolio, and manage project teams toward world-class outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and manage GIAIs Strategic and BAU (Business as Usual) Change and governance requirements, collaborating with GIAI Product Owners (POs) to ensure compliance, alignment, and transparency across project spaces. Work collaboratively with the GIAI Executive Team, Chief Product Owners (CPO), and senior Technology & Operations (T&O) leadership to address and resolve challenges, issues, and constraints. Pursue operational excellence by setting ambitious yet realistic targets and striving for brilliance in all endeavors. Engage with key stakeholders, subject matter experts (SMEs), and process owners to extract and refine business requirements into high-quality development artifacts. Proactively identify and resolve known and emerging challenges in business requirements and system designs. Ensure alignment between technical and business Product Owners through clear and thoughtful design and execution assumptions. Utilize agile methodologies and Scrum practices to achieve outstanding outcomes. When appropriate, coach, develop, and implement best operational practices, leveraging Bank frameworks and professional standards. Continuously improve processes by staying updated on internal audit practices through research and participation in industry forums. Develop and implement solutions that enhance the audit practice, integrating changes effectively within the function. Manage change by fostering strong relationships, processes, and networks to achieve outstanding results. Propel change and efficiency in alignment with the Bank's control and governance requirements. Manage the implementation of GIAI's Privacy Management Plan and Data Quality Management Standard with support from relevant functions. Cultivate a passion for continuous improvement for yourself and your team through learning opportunities and development resources. Ensure teams are adequately resourced and independent to perform their duties objectively.

Skills


Integrity and high professional ethics. Demonstrable Change delivery experience within risk or audit environments Strong commitment and proven record of transformation and change delivery. Significant experience working within agile / scrum-based transformation projects. Ability to handle information and business affairs with secrecy and confidentially as appropriate. Must be pragmatic with the ability to communicate effectively with the highest levels of management and decision-making within the organization. Ability to challenge and communicate effectively with key stakeholders, SMEs, GIA Leadership. Adequate self-awareness and confidence to acknowledge knowledge gaps and seek to fill them from reliable sources. Ability to research and distil information to solve complex commercial data issues. People leader with strong communications, listening, influencing and interpersonal skills. Agile certifications such as Certified Scrum Master, Certified Scrum Product Owner are desirable but not mandatory.

Experience


You should be an excellent communicator and listener, capable of quick thinking. Ideally, you will possess project and change delivery leadership experience and have a track record of leading agile teams. Strong stakeholder management skills, team leadership, and a results-driven mindset are essential. You should be a collaborative team player, self-motivated, and possess exceptional influencing and interpersonal skills. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in delivering agile and digital transformation projects within an audit/risk environment, demonstrating strong communication skills and intellectual rigor. A thorough understanding of the internal audit environment, business logic, process design, software development lifecycle processes, and agile methodologies, along with a strong foundation of integrity, enthusiasm, and determination.
