Post No. POSN004641 - Disability Youth Worker

Are you a passionate and experienced individual with a commitment to supporting Disabled children and young people? We are offering an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of a new initiative focused on group-based activities. This project aims to provide a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment where children and young people up to the age of 17 can thrive, develop skills, build confidence, and enjoy meaningful experiences with their peers.

As a Disability Youth Worker, you will lead a small team of sessional play workers in designing and delivering a diverse programme of activities that promote skill development, independence, communication, and personal growth for disabled children and young people. In addition, the role offers opportunities to support the wider family, including siblings and parents/carers.

You will need to be able to build strong relationships and collaborate with a range of professionals, partner agencies, and actively seek feedback from families to inform and improve service delivery.

While the team is based at Serennu Children's Centre, a purpose-built facility opened in April 2011, activities may extend into the wider community, at a variety of locations and venues. The role may involve meeting the physical, emotional, and care needs of individuals, and requires a strong commitment to inclusive, non-restrictive practices that empower children and young people to thrive in a safe and supportive environment.

The post holder will be responsible for the supervision of sessional staff, setting up and clearing of activities, care and maintenance of equipment, completion of case recordings, and undertaking appropriate training around confidentiality, child protection, non-restrictive practices, and meeting the care needs of disabled children.

The succesfull candidate will hold a relevent Youth Work Qualifcation (level 6 minimum) and have experience of working with Disabled children and / or young people and have an understanding of the issues facing Disabled children and their family.

The post holder must be willing to work flexible hours to meet the needs of the service. During term time, this could include after-school sessions, while extended daytime hours will be required throughout school holiday periods. The local authority operates a time off in lieu system.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (1974) and is subject to a successful Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Council posts and associated pay are subject to the outcome of an on-going Pay & Grading Review.
