Doctors Lane Surgery in Aldbrough St John, North Yorkshire, are looking to recruit a qualified dispenser to join our team. We are a friendly, rural surgery in a purpose built family medical centre in a beautiful setting. We serve circa 3200 patients, and are situated between Richmond and Darlington - dispensing to almost all of our practice population.
The successful candidate must have an NVQ II in dispensary/pharmacy skills or equivalent, have excellent communication skills, computer skills, adapt to change and be a good team player.
The hours and days of work are negotiable, and will be mutually agreed with the successful candidate, however the ability to work flexibly, and availability for holiday cover is essential.

Job Summary
The post holder will work within the Dispensary covering all duties required of a busy rural dispensing surgery.
Principal Duties and areas of Responsibility
To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, about the item, about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are appropriately stored and a record kept of all financial transactions
To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate
To promptly forward all invoices and correspondence to the Practice Manager where appropriate according to the practice policy
To operate an efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.
Carry out/assist with dispensary audits
To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions
To ensure that shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and in good working order
To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins/CAS alerts that may be received
To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook
To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of System One when appropriate
To undertake any necessary work that may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service
To monitor and action tasks associated with online requests
Attend and participate in practice meetings
Any other delegated duties considered appropriate to the post
Other Responsibilities within the Organisation
Awareness of and compliance with all relevant Practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety
A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
Contributing to evaluation/audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation
Contributing to the development of computer-based patient records
Attending training and events organised by the Practice or other agencies, where appropriate.
