The Dispenser plays a crucial role in the healthcare setting, responsible for accurately dispensing medications and ensuring that patients receive the correct prescriptions within general practice setting. This position requires a keen attention to detail and a commitment to patient care, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a team. The Dispenser will interact with patients and healthcare professionals, providing essential support in medication administration and patient education.
Duties
Accurately dispense medications according to prescriptions ensuring correct labelling with drug name, strength, dosage instructions and patient details while adhering to safety protocols.
Verify patient information and medication orders to ensure accuracy.
Provide guidance and support to patients regarding prescriptions and medications.
Maintain an organised inventory of medications and supplies, ensuring proper storage conditions.
Assist in the preparation of medication administration records and other documentation as required.
Participate in training sessions and continuous professional development activities.
Ensure drugs, especially refrigerated items, are stored according to manufacturer guidelines and maintain temperature control records.
Respond promptly to drug alerts and ensure all actions are documented appropriately
Ensure the dispensary area remains clean, tidy, and hygienic, with all equipment in good working order.
Adhere to legal requirements and practice policies, especially concerning controlled drugs.
Handle repeat prescription requests received via various channels, including telephone, email, NHS App and in-person.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential
NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent qualification in dispensing.
Proficiency in using clinical computer systems.
Strong knowledge of medication administration procedures and protocols.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
Attention to detail and strong organisational skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
A compassionate approach to patient care, demonstrating empathy and understanding.
Driving Licence and access to own transport in order to work across our three practice sites.
Desirable:
Experience working in a general practice or community pharmacy setting.
Knowledge of NHS prescription processing and reimbursement procedures.
Familiarity with stock control systems and procedures.
Welsh language.
