Job summary

The Holbrook & Shotley Practice are looking to welcome a qualified Dispenser into our busy dispensing practice. You will play a full and active role as part of the practice multi-disciplinary team. Consideration would be given to part-time an job share. Salary negotiable depending on experience.

The hours will be worked across both our dispensaries at Holbrook and Shotley surgeries with additional hours as required to cover for annual leave and sickness.

Main duties of the job

The main responsibilities of the role include:

To process all relevant prescriptions and repeat prescriptions as authorised by GP's and prescribing nurses where appropriate, in accordance with the good practice principles of the Dispensing Services Quality Scheme;

To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labeling instructions, to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor;

To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient;

Process Dossett Boxes;

Answering and dealing with dispensary phone enquiries;

Monitoring patients' exemption status;

Sorting and disposing of unwanted/returned medication;

Any other duties to assist in the smooth day to day running of the Dispensary and Surgery as directed by the either the Dispensary Manager or Practice Manager.

We pride ourselves on providing a high standard of care to our 8000 patients. Our Practice team comprises of four GP Partners, two salaried GP, supported by a highly experienced team of nurses, dispensers, paramedic, clinical pharmacist and reception team.

Person Specification

Essential experience

At least 1 years dispensary or pharmacy experience; Excellent clinical and medication knowledge; The commitment to continue to learn new clinical skills and develop your career; The confidence to work as part of a busy GP multi-disciplinary practice team and using your own initiative in decision making; The ability to be adaptable and flexible in your approach;

Essential Qualifications

You will have at least a NVQ Level 2/3 Dispensary or equivalent Pharmacy Services qualification;

Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
