DISPENSER

We are looking for a cheerful, conscientious and adaptable person to join our dispensing team.

Applicants should possess: NVQ2 Dispensing skills or equivalent; computer-literacy; excellent communication skills; confident telephone manner; and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Training is provided for a suitable applicant. This post is available for full-time or part-time hours, with some flexibility to work daytime and evening hours. Flexibility to cover annual leave or sick leave is essential.

REHABILITATION OF OFFENDERS ACT: This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Should you be offered the post it will be subject to a DBS Disclosing and Baring check before the appointment is confirmed. JOB TITLE: DISPENSER

REPORTS TO: Dispensary Supervisor / Practice Manager

HOURS: 15-22.5hrs/week

Job Summary:

The post-holder will project a positive and friendly image to dispensary patients and other visitors, and deal with queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.

Assist in the preparation and dispensing of prescriptions and assist with stock control, ordering and re-stocking of the dispensary.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Main Tasks of Role

Dealing with telephone enquiries and synchronising medication requests for patients

Printing Dosett box prescriptions

Entering weekly medication reviews on the computer for each doctor

Dealing with Electronic Transfer of Prescriptions (ETP)

Deal with any patient queries written in the black notebook by colleagues in Dispensary

Sort old prescriptions that have been removed from the shelves as they have not been collected by patients

Medication reconciliation

Completing DRUMS

Counting prescriptions

Preparing prescriptions for the PPA at the end of each month

Ordering bags, bottles, labels and other sundries

Putting medications away

Stock rotation at the end of each month

Reviewing protocols within the Department

Dispensing

Dispensing acute prescriptions.

Dispensing repeat prescriptions requests received by telephone calls, by fax, by e-mail, by website, from the outlying villages and those delivered to the surgery.

Updating patients' repeat screens on Doctors' instructions.

Dispensing private prescriptions.

Dispensing 'blacklisted' prescriptions, pricing and recording them.

Checking colleagues' dispensing.

Dosett box packaging and checking Dosett boxes.

Ensuring the Dispensary area remains clean and tidy.

Prescriptions

Handing out prescriptions and collecting charges when appropriate.

Liaising with medication delivery service.

Taking prescription repeats over the telephone and at the patients' hatch.

Generating prescriptions.

Collecting private charges for 'blacklisted' medications, vaccines and holiday prophylactic medication.

Completing backs of prescriptions.

Sorting, stamping, and endorsing prescriptions.

Processing and bundling prescriptions for the Prescription Pricing Authority.

Stock Control

Ordering appropriate quantities of goods via the wholesaler's computer link.

Checking goods as and when they are delivered and recording generic details.

Being responsible for the receipt and recording of controlled drugs.

Returning incorrect goods to the wholesalers.

Stocking shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas using rotation method.

Removing 'out of date' stock from the shelves, refrigerators and other storage areas.

Disposal of returned unused medicines.

Other

Assist with training of Trainee Dispensers.

Undertake Dispensary Review of Medicines with patients.

Participate in ongoing and ad hoc audits.

This is neither exhaustive nor exclusive and will be reviewed periodically in conjunction with the post holder. The post holder is required to carry out any duties that may reasonably be requested by the Partners, the Dispensary Supervisor or the Practice Manager.

In the performance of the duties outlined in this , the post-holder may have access to confidential information relating to patients and their carers, practice staff and other healthcare workers. They may also have access to information relating to the practice as a business organisation. All such information from any source is to be regarded as strictly confidential

Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the practice policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.

The post-holder will assist in promoting and maintaining their own and others' health, safety and security as defined in the practice Health & Safety Policy, to include:

Using personal security systems within the workplace according to practice guidelines

Identifying the risks involved in work activities and undertaking such activities in a way that manages those risks

Making effective use of training to update knowledge and skills

Using appropriate infection control procedures, maintaining work areas in a tidy and safe way and free from hazards

Reporting potential risks identified.

Please note that this position requires a standing position for long periods.

NVQ2 in Dispensary in General Practice is the minimum qualification required for this position. If not already held, enrolment on this course will be required within three months of commencing employment and completion of the qualification expected within an agreed reasonable timeframe.

Participation in an annual individual performance review, including taking responsibility for maintaining a record of own personal and/or professional development

Taking responsibility for own development, learning and performance and demonstrating skills and activities to others who are undertaking similar work.

This is a very demanding job and you are on your feet all day. You must have good people skills, good sense of humour and be educated to GCSE grade C or above in English and Maths.

You will also need your own transport as the shifts are early starts and late finishes, you will also need to be flexible to cover colleagues holidays and sickness
