We have a new and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and detail-focused Dispensary Assistant to join our team at Pinhoe & Broadclyst Medical Practice on a part time basis. The total hours available are 19.5 and the shift patterns is 8am - 6pm Monday, 1 - 6pm Wednesday and 1 - 6pm on Friday. We also require overtime to be worked for holiday and unplanned absence, so a candidate who can be flexible with working additional hours would be preferable. Four Saturdays per year working 9am - 5pm will also be required and will be paid as overtime
Job Scope
We are a two-site dispensing practice on the edge of Exeter extending onto the countryside of East Devon with an expanding patient population currently over 18,300.
Working under the supervision of the Dispensary Manager and in accordance with Practice guidelines and procedures, the Dispensary Assistant is part of a team that ensures an effective, efficient, and accurate service is provided to all dispensing patients at the Practice. You will be based at our Broadclyst Surgery. Unqualified applicants must be prepared to undertake an NVQ2 Dispensing Doctors Equivalent. You must be committed to ongoing personal development and being subject to regular dispensing accreditations. This job description will be reviewed on a regular basis and may be revised as the work of the dispensary requires.
Main Responsibilities
1.
Dispensing
To dispense medication as stated on prescriptions, maintaining accurate dispensing records. You must ensure that the medication is labeled with the correct drug name, strength, quantity, directions for use, patient's name and includes any additional required information.
To adhere to Practice policies and procedures for dispensing all medicines.
Maintain stock levels of medicines, checking expiry dates and storage conditions.
Place accurate and timely orders with suppliers and accept deliveries of medication, adding them to the computerised stock control records.
Dispensing of patient monitored dosage system boxes and associated administration.
2.
Administration
Using the EMIS Web clinical computer system and Proscript Connect system, ensure all relevant information is recorded onto individual patient records.
Endorse prescriptions accurately to ensure correct and timely reimbursement is made to the Practice.
Ensure the safe disposal of returned and out-of-date medications.
Issue repeat prescriptions as requested by patients within the agreed timescale.
3. Dispensary Reception
Ensure that the correct medication and prescription is given to the patient, having first carried out any necessary identity checks.
Collect prescription fees, both NHS and private, from patients.
Ensure any exemption entitlements are fully completed on the reverse of the prescription form.
Deal with any queries.
4.
Communication
Respond to queries from patients, pharmacies, hospitals, nursing homes etc., whether by face-to-face contact, telephone, or email.
Liaise with members of the clinical team regarding medication for individual patients.
Communicate effectively and regularly with other members of the dispensing team to ensure the accurate exchange of information relating to patients and their medication.
Attend any team meetings with dispensary colleagues and other Practice staff.
5.
General
At all times maintain absolute confidentiality.
Attend training courses as suggested by the Dispensary Manager and agreed as part of a personal development plan.
In conjunction with other team members, to be prepared to cover the work of colleagues when they are absent through annual leave or illness, including the work of the dispensary delivery drivers when short-notice and urgent cover is required.
