We are looking for a Commercial Lead to join our Supply, Trading & Shipping (ST&S) team as we strive to transform and connect the global energy market. This role offers deep exposure to the inner workings of a sophisticated trading book and positions the candidate for future roles in trading leadership or senior individual contributor posts across commercial or interfacing group functions.

Global Distillates Trading and Origination (GDIST) is part of the ST&S Refined Products Trading organization. We trade Fuel Oil, Gasoil, Diesel, Biofuels, and Jet Fuel globally, leveraging bp's assets and third-party relationships across key sectors including Aviation, Marine, Ground Fuels, and Lubricants. Our team operates from trading hubs in London, Singapore, and Chicago, with regional representatives in markets such as the Middle East, Australia, Indonesia, China, Nigeria, Ghana, and South Africa.
GDIST is accountable for:
Handling and optimizing the supply and trading portfolios for our group partners Air bp and FVC, covering all middle & heavy distillate and biodiesel grades
Entrepreneurial physical trading of middle & heavy distillates to generate value for the group
Originating commercial solutions to decarbonize our customer base across marine, aviation, and ground fuels
Executing paper trades and handling risk for the group, while entrepreneurially trading associated paper markets to deliver value
About the Role
In the role, you will work directly with a team of trading analysts to ensure accurate and timely deal capture and T0 exposure reporting within bp's systems of record for the Distillates trading desk.
You will bring technical expertise to the on-bench trading analysts supporting traders in monetizing commercial value through structured trading activities. This includes managing pricing options, post-deal management for complex transactions, customer collaboration, and analytical support for live origination projects. You will also play a key role in developing trading analyst capabilities.
The position is based in London and reports to the Distillates Commercial Manager, while also working closely with regional traders, support functions, and commercial leads across Chicago, Singapore, and ST&S RSOs. You will collaborate on arb flows, self-funding transactions, and process standardization.
Key Accountabilities
Accountabilities will be supported and supervised by RPTE traders and include:
Lead the team of trading analysts on Distillates, driving bench strategy and ensuring alignment with functional leads
Own daily exposure management for assigned portfolio(s); act as the main escalation point for book leads
Handle and develop the trading analyst team, including onboarding and training of new joiners
Support analysts in delivering daily exposure, T0 P&L, and other commercial activities aligned to bench strategy
Oversee issue resolution within T0 validation and FTS handover processes, ensuring adherence to best practices and internal policy
Champion continuous improvement efforts to simplify and streamline processes
Provide coverage support across the analyst team as required
Coordinate and oversee self-funding transactions for GDIST, supporting cash delivery for the bp Group
Collaborate with Commercial Managers to implement and embed new ways of working across the team
Essential Experience and Job Requirements
Experience in commodity trading, either in a trading/commercial analyst or commodity risk role
Strong knowledge of commodity markets, trading strategies, value generation, and risk management
Technical understanding of physical trading strategies
Ability to resolve complex issues using sound commercial judgement
Self-directed with strong prioritization and organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders across a fast-paced trading environment
A strong sense of ownership and accountability, with a commitment to team wellbeing and safety
Enthusiasm for working across diverse teams and acting as a connector across disciplines
A proactive and solutions-oriented mindset, with a record of solving business problems
