Our Commercial & Industrial division designs, fabricates and constructs structural steelwork for a variety of different sectors including commercial offices, stadia & leisure, industrial & distribution, data centres, retail and health and education.
The division has manufacturing sites in three locations: Dalton, Lostock, and Enniskillen. Vacancy Details
We're looking for a motivated Document Controller to join our structural steel manufacturing team.
This is ideal for someone who enjoys working with computers, learning new systems, and supporting projects that help build everything from stadiums to bridges. You'll play a key part in helping our design, fabrication, and site teams work efficiently by managing and controlling important project documents.
You'll get hands-on training from experienced colleagues, the chance to earn industry-recognised qualifications, and a clear path to progress into roles like Project Coordinator, BIM Technician, or Office Administrator.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Drawing Office by managing incoming and outgoing documents, such as drawings, design models, and specifications.
Ensure document control procedures are followed in line with company and project requirements.
Maintain digital and paper filing systems, ensuring all project information is up to date, clearly named, and stored correctly.
Log and track document revisions, issue numbers, and approval statuses.
Assist with project setup by creating and maintaining folder structures, transmittal logs, and distribution lists.
Prepare transmittals and issue packages to clients, consultants, and internal departments.
Check for completeness and accuracy before documents are released.
Liaise with engineers, draughtspersons, and project managers to ensure document flow is smooth and traceable.
Support quality audits and compliance checks (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 19650).
Learn to use document management software and systems such as SharePoint, 4Projects, or internal platforms.
To Be Successful In this Role:
You will need to be confident using computers and familiar with Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, and Outlook. You should have a keen eye for detail, be accurate in your work, and able to follow clear processes. Strong communication skills -- both written and verbal -- are important, along with a willingness to learn technical terms and systems. A proactive, positive attitude and the ability to work well in a team will also help you thrive.
It's a bonus if you have an interest in construction, engineering, or manufacturing, some awareness of technical drawings or CAD systems, or experience using file management tools such as OneDrive, SharePoint, or Google Drive.
