Laing O'Rourke is looking for a Document Controller in Margam substation in Port Talbot, Wales.





The Document Controller is responsible for ensuring all project information and documentation is managed accurately, securely, and in accordance with Laing O'Rourke's standards, providing an efficient and reliable document management service across the project lifecycle.





We have been appointed to deliver vital network upgrade works at Margam substation in Port Talbot, Wales, for National Grid.

Roles & responsibilities:




Support production, approval, and compliance of project Information Standards, Methods, and Procedures. Administer and maintain the project collaboration tools, ensuring accurate information flow, approvals, and version control. Conduct QA checks on all published documents and resolve drawing/document issues in line with project control procedures. Manage document receipt, checking, distribution, and archiving (digital and hard copy) in accordance with ISO 19650 and project policies. Oversee Method Statement registration, upload, and tracking, ensuring alignment with project timelines. Coordinate and deliver training and user support for internal and external stakeholders on collaboration tools and Field View. Liaise with software vendors on system performance and issue resolution; provide administrative support across project systems. Produce and distribute reports and dashboards to meet internal and client reporting requirements. Set up and maintain digital handover and Field View systems, ensuring alignment with client standards. Support the procurement team with tender documentation, addendums, and document control queries. Supervise document controllers (where applicable) and contribute to digital health checks and business improvement forums. Promote best practice in information management and continuous improvement across project teams.





Qualifications & experience:





Technical Skills:


Foundation: Working knowledge of ISO 19650 standards. Competent: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams); understanding of quality management systems; confident in using mobile and tablet devices. Advanced: Strong experience with collaboration/EDM systems (preferably Asite).
Key Skills:


Strong initiative, planning, and self-management skills. Technical aptitude with the ability to learn and adapt quickly. Process mapping and resource management capabilities. Detail-oriented, methodical, and organised approach to work.
Personal Attributes:


Flexible, reliable, and team-focused. Excellent written and verbal communication. Logical thinker with strong attention to detail and ability to prioritise under pressure.
