The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) is one of twenty areas that have secured funding from the Home Office to develop a Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) and commission services to deliver a response strategy including capacity building, tactical changes, and interventions. VRUs are a multi-agency public health approach designed to bring together police, local government, health agencies, education representatives and other community representatives to tackle violent crime, and importantly, its underlying causes.

The Role

The post holder will be based within the OPCC and will be part of the VRU team supporting the delivery of the strategic aims and objectives of the VRU and the Police and Crime Plan. Working with the VRU's Domestic Abuse Specialist and other VRU staff, you will project manage Home Office funded interventions such as the Northumbria Hub and Spoke Model. The post holder will work closely with key stakeholders, specialist providers (for victims and perpetrators), Northumbria Police and local authorities to build relationships, encourage collaboration and system change to improve responses to tackling domestic abuse perpetrators. The post holder will also support the development and monitoring of other domestic abuse interventions as and when required by the VRU; and support delivery of the OPCC's Violence Against Women and Girl's Strategy, and the Northumbria Serious Violence Response Strategy.

What do I need?

A degree or substantial experience of working in a community safety multi-agency context
Enhanced understanding of domestic abuse and experience of working with partner agencies to tackle domestic abuse
Excellent communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills, an ability to build transformative relationships, lead inclusive meetings, and influence stakeholders around common goals
Ability to conduct sound research and analysis and summarise and present key findings to a range of audiences
Project and contract management experience, including setting up and delivering projects within timescales, overseeing delivery of those services, identification of opportunities for improvements as well as mitigation of risks and barriers to delivery
Ability to work well individually and as part of a team, which includes taking direction from your line manager with an ability to prioritise often competing demands.
Experience of handling sensitive information and have the highest standards of integrity.
Experience of managing budgets for complex projects including reporting to external funders and stakeholders in line with grant or partnership agreements.
An understanding of the public health approach to tackling serious violence and an excellent understanding of the local partnership landscape and governance structures.
Ability to travel to different locations across the Northumbria area.
Excellent IT skills
Understanding of the governance and scrutiny role of Police and Crime Commissioners.
Willingness to attend events and to work outside of usual office hours where necessary with appropriate time off in lieu.
