Job Description

Part time domestic assistant required to join small team who maintain high standards of cleanliness in our residential care home. Must understand principles of infection control and requirements of COSHH.

Hours: Monday to Thursday 7am-1pm. 24 hours per week. 2 months fixed term contract with potential becoming permanent.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: 13.04 per hour

We also have opportunities for domestic at our Sheltered sites (Cedarmore, Southmore and Elenmore Court), approximately 12 hours per week in total.

Employment will be subject to satisfactory references, proof of the right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS clearance.

Accountability:



Domestic Staff are accountable to the Support Staff Supervisor and Supervisor in charge.

Purpose of Appointment:



To share with other members of the domestic team in meeting a very high standard of cleanliness and infection control throughout the home.

Hours



As agreed at time of employment or as subsequently revised in agreement with the Registered Manager. High standards of hygiene are required every day of the year and therefore it may not always be possible to approve holidays at Christmas, New Year or Bank Holidays but we will make every effort to accommodate requests for leave.

Principal Duties:



1. To clean areas of the home as per the allocated rota. (This may include residents' rooms, en suite toilets, shared toilets and bathrooms, corridors, lounges, dining rooms, offices and other general areas within the home).

2. Deep clean specified areas (e.g. a resident's room) according to the rota or on change of resident within a specific room.

3. Clean inside of windows monthly.

4. Work as part of a team, giving and accepting assistance from other members of the team as necessary.

5. Adhere to all Health & Safety requirements, especially COSHH regulations regarding the use of cleaning materials.

6. Undertake COSHH, Safeguarding, Infection Control and other training as required by the Registered Manager.

7. Take care of cleaning equipment, ensure it is used correctly and report any problems.

8. Take care of residents' personal possessions, ensuring that items are left where residents have put them (especially in the case of blind or partially sighted residents).

9. Respect residents' privacy, e.g. by knocking on doors before entering.

10. Report to care staff when aware of any resident in need of urgent attention.

11. Maintain confidentiality of personal information about residents and staff according to GDPR.

Qualifications



Essential: Willingness to undertake all required training courses

Desirable: NVQ Cleaning and Support Services

Skills



Essential:

o Good organisational skills

o Ability to receive and give information and to communicate effectively with colleagues and service users

o Understanding of infection control measures

o Strong interpersonal skills listening, empathy, observation.

Experience



Essential:

o Experience of domestic tasks

o Experience of working in a team

o Experience of providing customer-focused service

Desirable: Experience of working within a care setting

o Ability to distinguish between colours for colour-coding of cleaning equipment.

o Ability to follow instructions and work without direct supervision

o Confident but friendly, calm and gentle in manner, even when in a challenging situation

o Ability to work alone and flexibly as part of a team.

o Fitness to undertake work that may be at times physically or emotionally demanding
