Job Description

Make a difference in the lives of others! We are looking for compassionate Domiciliary Care Workers to provide essential personal, domestic, and social care to vulnerable people in the community. This includes supporting frail elderly individuals, those with physical and learning disabilities, and those with mental health challenges, within their own homes.

Alternating weekly schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, and Sunday one week; Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday the following week.

Contracts: 16-hour per week or 20- hour per week

Monday-Friday Morning/Lunch and Afternoon (Tea) runs

: 12.60 per hour

Monday-Thursday Bed (Night) runs:

13.15 per hour

Weekend runs (including a Friday bed run):

14.15 per hour

Key Responsibilities include:



1. Personal Care as specified on the care plan for the service user. This includes assisting service users with all aspects of personal hygiene i.e. washing, shaving, showering etc.

- Assist service users with toileting, dressing/undressing and feeding

- Assist service users with mobility and transfer using correctly any specialised equipment provided.

- Administer prescribed medication, only as directed by a qualified medical practitioner under the direction of a supervisor

- Assist service users with therapeutic programmes as directed by relevant professionals

2. Domestic Care when directed, maintain cleanliness of Service users home to ensure a safe environment set out in the health and safety requirements.

- When directed by the supervisor, preparing meals, lighting fires, attending to laundry, and ensuring a safe and hygienic environment.

3. Social Care to actively encourage service users according to their capabilities in the care plan to participate in daily activities. To have the ability to listen and provide support to individual clients and carers. The following activities may be included.

- Sitting for carer relief

- Talking/socialising with client

- Initiating relevant activities

Managing affairs under direction of supervisor, for example, collecting benefits, shopping.

4. Collaboration with other personnel involved in the care of the service user i.e. G.P's, Nurses, and Social Workers etc.

5. General duties the domiciliary worker must maintaining accurate and reliable information recorded in line Strabane District Caring Services policies and procedures.

Essential Skills



A full valid driving licence and access to transport for work purposes. Good written and oral communication skills. Work as part of a team. Understanding of health and safety in the workplace. Able to promote and deliver personal care.

Desirable Skills:



6 months experience in formal care setting. NVQ level 2 in Care or equivalent. NISCC registered or willing to undertake if successful. Knowledge of domiciliary care minimum standards.
