Job Summary
This is a great opportunity to join an expanding team working for a lifesaving organisation. The Donor Records Department is responsible for maintaining the NHSBT Donor/Donation database, capturing and updating demographic and clinical data. As well as the laboratories and collection teams, Donor Records has a very specific role supporting the Clinical Support Team through the referral of Donor Health Checks requiring their attention, enabling them to ensure the safe release of blood products.
You will play an active role in developing best practice in a department committed to team working and continuous improvement, being a key part of the blood supply chain from donor to patient.
Main duties of the job
You will be required to undertake administration and clerical duties in support of Donor Records. Typically these duties will involve:-
To be responsible for managing the national donor safety checks from blood donor sessions, updating and maintaining donor's details to ensure the continuous improvement in the quality of the donor database and producing routine medical correspondence.
To liaise with other departments and key stakeholders and external organisations.
To maintain records and collate and present data and statistics.
To be a critical safety check within the blood supply chain.
Develop and maintain relationships with colleagues, including internal stakeholders & external organisations.
Liaise and communicate effectively with colleagues and other departments, outside agencies and professional bodies, in a mature and professional manner.
Record or communicate sometimes difficult information by telephone, email or paper correspondence, always ensuring confidentiality of information. This might include chasing information, missing information and responses from external organisations, presenting complex data, scheduling meetings, attending route cause analysis meetings, etc.
Act as first point of contact for a range of queries from managers and staff (both telephone- and e-mail-based)
Act as last line of defence by checking donor safety checks and highlighting errors to management teams, Clinical support teams and Quality Assurance departments while keeping blood supply safe and removing risk to patients.
You will be required to undertake occasional travel to any NHSBT sites to meet the requirements of the post (notice will be given)

Qualifications
Willingness to learn new skills as changes to software and processes are developed/implemented
NVQ 3 or equivalent qualification/experience
Demonstrates commitment to own continous learning and development
Experience
Standard Keyboard skills or equivalent qualification/experience
Effective written skills
Knowledge of standard office equipment
Proven experience of communicating effectively, using a variety of methods, including a professional telephone manner.
Demonstrate knowledge of excellent Word Processing skills
Working knowledge of computer software packages e.g. Microsoft Office or similar

The normal working hours for this role are 15 hours per week, working Monday and Saturday, 7.5 hours per day between the hours of 06:00am 15:00pm. This role will be based at Bristol Blood Centre (Filton).
