Primary Function and Purpose:

A position has arisen for a Purification Scientist to join Astrea at this exciting time develop and optimise purification methods using our new chromatography products. The Research Scientist-DSP will work with a diverse team of scientists.

  • You will have an in-depth knowledge of purification techniques and how to optimise purification processes
  • You will help, train and supervise other purification scientists in the lab.
  • Your work will directly contribute to application notes and product instructions.
  • You will be able to analyse results and feedback to the product development teams with proposed improvements to the products
Principle Responsibilities:
  • Performing and optimising purification
  • Developing purification methods
  • Training others and upskilling other scientist
  • Project leadership
  • Record keeping, writing and reporting
  • Participation in project-specific and general meetings
  • Routine equipment maintenance
  • Upholding health and safety requirements
  • Other related duties/responsibilities as required or assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications:

BSc in Chemistry, Biochemistry or related discipline, experience working on DSP improvements and optimisations in an industrial setting.

Other Requirements:
  • In-depth knowledge of different chromatography methods for protein, nucleic acid, or viral vector purification and how to use and optimise them. Including column packing, scale up and scale down models for ion-exchange, Hydrophobic interaction chromatography, Size exclusion, affinity, etc.
  • Experience working with and programming AKTA systems
  • Experience with liquid handling platforms for high throughput development of chromatography processes would also be advantageous.
  • to work on multiple projects at the same time.
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments, cell culture and analytics would be an advantage.
Keen to learn and enthusiastic with an interest in furthering Bioproduction through the innovation of the next generation of chromatography tools.

Working Conditions:
  • Will work mostly in a wet-lab environment. This will involve exposure to chemicals and potentially biohazardous materials. PPE will be provided and should be worn always.
