We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Driver Manager responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle of professional drivers, including recruitment, onboarding, induction, and ongoing training. This role ensures a consistent pipeline of qualified drivers, supports legal compliance, and promotes high performance, safety, and retention across the driving team.
Key Responsibilities:1. Recruitment & Selection:
Manage the full recruitment process for all driver roles (HGV Class 1, Class 2, etc.).
Write and post job adverts across platforms; liaise with agencies where necessary.
Screen applicants for qualifications, experience, and legal requirements (e.g. CPC, digital tacho, right to work).
Conduct interviews and assessments (including driving assessments where applicable).
Build and maintain a driver talent pool for ongoing and future needs.
2. Onboarding & Induction:
Coordinate the onboarding process for all new drivers.
Conduct or oversee induction programs covering company policies, safety protocols, vehicle checks, and route/fleet systems.
Ensure all driver documentation is verified and up to date before deployment (licenses, medicals, CPC, etc.).
Introduce drivers to key team members, company culture, and expectations.
3. Training & Development:
Identify driver training needs through monitoring, assessments, and compliance checks.
Coordinate CPC training and any additional internal or external courses (e.g. health & safety, defensive driving, customer service).
Maintain accurate training records for each driver.
Monitor driver performance and deliver refresher training or coaching where needed.
4. Compliance & Performance Monitoring:
Ensure all drivers are compliant with transport regulations (Driver Hours, Working Time Directive, tachograph laws).
Work closely with compliance teams to handle infringements, audits, and investigations.
Support continuous improvement in driver safety, fuel efficiency, and customer service standards.
5. Engagement & Retention:
Act as the first point of contact for driver-related concerns, promoting open communication and engagement.
Implement retention strategies, including regular check-ins and recognition of good performance.
Lead driver feedback sessions to improve policies, schedules, and conditions.
Key Requirements:
Essential:
Experience in driver or transport management, including recruitment and training.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Organised, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple tasks.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and transport management systems.
Desirable:
Previous HGV driving or transport planning experience.
Experience in HR onboarding systems or training delivery platforms.
