Buckhurst Plant Hire is a leading UK supplier of plant, utility, and specialist equipment to the construction, civil engineering, and utilities sectors. As part of our ongoing growth, we're looking for an experienced and reliable Fitter/Driver to join our team.
Job Purpose:
As a Fitter/Driver (HGV Class 2 would be advantageous), you will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing plant and equipment on customer sites and at depots. You'll work independently to respond to breakdowns, conduct routine maintenance, and ensure our machines are safe, legal, and operating at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Carry out planned maintenance, servicing, and repairs on plant equipment including excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers, and smaller utility equipment
Respond to emergency breakdowns on customer sites efficiently and professionally
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic faults and carry out effective repairs
Ensure all work is completed to a high standard and in line with health & safety guidelines
Maintain accurate service records and complete job sheets using digital or manual systems
Keep van stock and tools organised and in good working order
Liaise with the hire desk and depot teams to coordinate repairs and prioritise urgent jobs
Provide clear feedback on repairs required or completed to customers and internal teams
Promote and uphold the company's reputation through professional, friendly service
Ensure compliance with LOLER, PUWER, and other relevant regulations
Delivery driver experience is highly desirable for efficient route management and client interaction.
Ability to operate a flatbed vehicle safely under various conditions. This role offers an engaging opportunity for a mechanically skilled individual with driving experience to contribute significantly to our operational success while developing their career within a dynamic environment.
Deliver goods to clients or project sites efficiently, adhering to schedules and safety protocols.
Communicate effectively with team members regarding maintenance schedules, repairs, and delivery updates.

Required Skills & Experience:
Previous experience as a plant fitter, construction equipment mechanic, or similar
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrics, and diagnostics
Ability to work independently and solve problems under pressure
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Full UK driving licence (essential)
Good understanding of health & safety procedures
Basic IT skills for completing digital service reports (training provided)
Desirable:
NVQ Level 2/3 in Plant Maintenance, Engineering, or equivalent
CSCS Card or equivalent site safety certification
Knowledge of utility equipment or road rail plant
Forklift, IPAF, or PASMA certifications
LOLER inspection knowledge or certification (advantageous)
HGV class 2 would be an advantage
