At Dunelm, a Driver's Mate is being hands-on, customer-facing role within the logistics and delivery sector, where the ideal individual will work closely with a professional driver to ensure that goods are transported and delivered safely, efficiently, and with a high standard of service.

This position is vital to the smooth operation of delivery schedules and plays a key part in upholding the company's reputation through direct interaction with customers. Beyond assisting with physical tasks, the Driver's Mate acts as an ambassador for the business, helping to create a positive delivery experience, solving on-the-spot challenges, and ensuring that every customer receives their order with care and professionalism.

What you'll be doing

Play a key role in enhancing the overall customer experience through clear communication and consistently high standards of customer service. Maintain excellent timekeeping to ensure timely deliveries and a smooth customer journey. Use PDA devices (phones) to contact customers in a courteous, professional, and approachable manner. Assist drivers with reversing and act as a banksman to ensure the safety of team members, customers, and third parties. Comply with all health and safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment at all times. Deliver with care and attention to detail, offering value-added services such as "Room of Choice" placement and removal of packaging to elevate the customer experience. Support Warehouse and Office teams with loading, unloading, and other reasonable operational tasks as required. Work to a fixed early start schedule, typically returning to base by 17:00 most evenings. Benefit from a rotating shift pattern that includes both long and short weekends, offering a balanced work-life rhythm

Ideal Candidate Profile
Proven experience in a distribution or logistics environment, with a solid understanding of delivery operations. Strong proficiency in using PDA devices and mobile phones for communication and task management. Demonstrated ability to interact calmly and clearly with both customers and drivers, even under pressure. Skilled in building effective working relationships across various teams and departments. Positive attitude toward evolving business needs, with a willingness to embrace change. * Flexible and responsive approach, capable of adjusting to operational demands as required.
