Design & Technology (DT) Technician
. This exciting opportunity offers the chance to be at the heart of a dynamic Design and Technology department, playing a crucial role in the delivery of creative and practical education.
About the Role
As a DT Technician, you will provide
practical and organisational support
across the DT curriculum. You'll be central to ensuring the smooth operation of the department by managing equipment, supporting staff and students, and maintaining a safe and inspiring learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Operate, inspect, and maintain DT workshop equipment and hand tools.
Prepare materials and set up machinery for GCSE and A-Level projects and lessons.
Assist in lessons, demos, and coursework by preparing resources and supporting students.
Provide technical guidance to staff and demonstrate proper tool/machine usage to students.
Ensure all Health & Safety procedures and risk assessments are up to date and followed.
Manage stock and inventory of tools, materials, and equipment.
Liaise with suppliers, contractors, and support staff to facilitate maintenance or equipment upgrades.
Assist across other curriculum areas (e.g., Food, Art) when needed to alleviate staffing pressures.
Support admin and site-related duties during school holidays as appropriate.
Provide first aid and organise hospitality for events as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will hold (or be willing to obtain) the following:
Certificate in Food Safety and Hygiene (renewed every 3 years)
First Aid at Work certificate (renewed every 3 years)
GCSE Grade C+/4+ in English and Maths, or equivalent
Level 2 or higher qualification in Art & Design and/or Food Preparation and Nutrition, or similar vocational qualifications
