As a Duty Manager, you'll take day-to-day responsibility for the smooth operation of the centre during your shifts.
You'll lead by example, ensuring excellent customer service, safe facilities, and efficient team performance around the courts, reception, shop, fitness studios and lounges.
This is a hands-on role -- ideal for someone with experience in sports, leisure, hospitality, or retail management who enjoys being active, problem-solving, and engaging with people.
Key Responsibilities
Centre Operations: Oversee daily running of the club, ensuring all facilities (courts, reception, shop, cafe if applicable) operate smoothly and safely.
Customer Service: Act as the first point of contact for customer issues or escalations, ensuring all guests receive a warm, professional experience.
Team Supervision: Lead, support and motivate general assistants; assign duties and monitor standards throughout the day.
Health & Safety: Ensure all procedures are followed; complete daily checks (fire exits, courts, first aid equipment); report and log incidents appropriately.
Administration: Handle cashing up, banking, bookings, and reports for your shift.
Sales & Promotion: Support retail operations, membership sales, events, and promotional activities.
Facilities Standards: Maintain cleanliness, presentation, and readiness of all areas.
Communication: Liaise with the Centre Manager about maintenance, staffing, customer feedback and operational issues.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential:
Previous supervisory or management experience (e.g. in leisure, sport, hospitality, or retail)
Strong customer service and communication skills
Proactive, organised, and confident making decisions
Reliable and punctual, with a positive "hands-on" attitude
Comfortable leading a small team and working independently
Basic computer literacy (booking systems, email, POS)
Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required
Desirable:
First Aid at Work qualification (training will be provided)
Interest in pickleball, padel, or sport/fitness generally
Experience opening/closing a leisure or retail facility
