EAL Engagement Lead - Trinity Academy Carlton Mill

-------------------------------------------------------

Job description
In Calderdale there is a distinct lack of Alternative Provision, this, combined with post-pandemic challenges has meant that the number of permanently excluded has reached three figures.

In 2023 we took the bold decision to make significant contributions to being part of the solution to this issue.

Last academic year we opened a tier two provision called Trinity Academy Carlton Mill, initially this was for students that attend our school however, in line with our ambition to be part of a Calderdale solution, we are now opening this to students from other schools such that young people across the borough can benefit from the great work we are doing.

At Trinity Academy Carlton Mill we work with children who are at risk of permanent exclusion such that they can be reintegrated back into a mainstream setting.

We offer Trinity 14-week breakout placements for students in years 7 to 10 within Calderdale.

The aim of each placement is that students become better equipped to access mainstream education and we work with each student on an individual basis to meet their needs.

We work in partnership with a host of specialists and the referring academy or school to give students the best possible chance of successful reintegration.

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic EAL Engagement Lead to be a direct link between the academy selected ethnic communities, liaising with relevant stake-holders and other agencies.

You will lead the delivery and development of the Alternative Provision Pastoral Service alongside the Assistant Head of Service.

You will undertake regular home visits, attending parental meetings, engaging with students and families via different channels of communication, to ensure school and families work together.

The ideal candidate will be, enthusiastic, and resilient with a willingness to develop additional skills.

What are we looking for?

Ability to engage in training to a level 3 standard qualification in Working with Parents or equivalent qualification.

Ability to speak other languages.

Willingness to participate in other development and training opportunities as / when identified.

Experience of delivering individual or group based support.

Good knowledge of the local community and School.

Experience of working with students, parents, staff or the local community.

Willingness to undertake Team Teach training.

Experience of multi-agency working, preferably including childcare, health and social care.

Up to date knowledge and understanding of safeguarding matters.

In addition to the academic and personal development element of our work, from April this year we will also be home to an 'Alternative Provision Specialist Taskforce'.

The taskforce takes a multi-agency approach to meet the needs of some of Calderdale's most vulnerable young people and is comprised of:

EAL Engagement Lead.

Educational Welfare Officer.

Family Support Worker.

Specialist Administrator.

Reintegration Lead.

Mental Health Counsellor.

Youth Justice Worker.

Substance Misuse Officer.

Careers Advisor.

Speech and Language Therapist.

Educational Psychologist.

Through working with the students on a daily basis and being housed under the same roof, the taskforce will ensure access to the right support, in the right place, and at the right time.

This is an exciting opportunity to join us at the start of the next stage of our development.
