Shoots Training are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to complete their Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner Apprenticeship at Pixies Day Nursery Lock's Heath, Southampton.


Pixies Tree Day nursery is a private run day nursery. Our Nursery is in Locks Heath, Hampshire near Southampton, in an old Edwardian house with the most welcoming of character.


We are extremely mindful of safety and therefore have the highest level of security and fire alarms available today, including emergency lighting. Our outside areas have high fencing to keep everyone safe and secure whilst enjoying the freedom of the great outdoors.


We have 2 baby rooms (1 unit) 2-3 room and another building (adjoining) with a sessional pre-school. We care for children from 3 months until school age. We also have a breakfast and after school club until 8 years.


The EYFS curriculum is based around seven areas of learning and development.

Prime Areas:

Communication & Language - listening and attention, understanding, and speaking.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development - making relationships, self-confidence and self-awareness and managing feelings and behaviour.

Physical Development - moving and handling, and health and self-care.

The Prime Areas develop through effective relationships and experiences and remain fundamental throughout the EYFS.


The four Specific Areas of learning grow from the Prime Areas and provide important contexts for extending skills and knowledge.

Specific Areas:

Literacy - reading and writing.

Mathematics - numbers, shape, space and measure.

Understanding the World - people and communities, the world and technology.

Expressive Arts & Design - exploring and using media and materials, and being imaginative.


Your duties and responsibilities will include;




Child Development & Learning Promote the physical, emotional, social, and cognitive development of children aged 3 months-5yrs Plan and deliver stimulating, age-appropriate activities in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Observe, assess, and record children's progress to inform planning and support individual needs Safeguarding & Child Welfare Ensure a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for all children Follow safeguarding and child protection procedures in accordance with statutory guidance Maintain confidentiality and adhere to GDPR and data protection policies Inclusion & Special Educational Needs (SEN) Support children with additional needs, ensuring inclusive access to learning opportunities Work collaboratively with external agencies and professionals to implement tailored support strategies Promote equality, diversity, and inclusive practices throughout the setting Partnership with Parents & Carers Build and maintain positive relationships with families and carers Communicate regularly regarding children's development, achievements, and well-being Encourage parental involvement in the learning process and setting activities Professional Conduct & Team Collaboration Work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a positive and professional environment Mentor and support junior staff and apprentices Engage in continuous professional development and reflective practice Administrative & Organisational Duties Maintain accurate records, including observations, assessments, and safeguarding documentation Support the day-to-day organisation of the setting, including routines, transitions, and events Uphold all policies, procedures, and standards set by the organisation and regulatory bodies

Requirements;




A Level 3 Childcare qualification is essential At least 1 years experience in a nursery setting GCSE grades A-C or 4-9 in Maths and English, or equivalent or willing to work towards them

Hours;




The setting is open from 7:30am - 6:00pm Monday to Friday The successful candidate will be required to work 38 hours per week 4 days a week with a set day off every week
