Term time, Monday to Thursday 8:00 am - 4:15 pm, Friday 8:00 am - 12:45 pm

We are looking for a fully qualified practitioner to join our team of passionate early years educators. Edzell nursery is well-established, providing high-quality education to children aged 3-6 years. We work in partnership with the City of Edinburgh Council and were rated highly by the Care Inspectorate following our inspection in April last year.

We are a Montessori nursery. Therefore, the ideal candidate will be deeply passionate about the Montessori approach to education and committed to creating a prepared environment that supports children's growth and development.

We are interested in hearing from strong early years practitioners who have a passion for providing quality learning experiences for children, both indoors and outdoors.

Skills and qualifications:



Fully qualified practitioner (Montessori training is preferred). Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a Montessori setting. Good understanding of child development principles, Montessori philosophy and the national framework. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. Registered with the SSSC or GTCS (or eligible for registration) and a member of the PVG Scheme. Have the right to work in the UK.

Job description



Create and maintain an engaging, child-centred Montessori environment by developing and adapting materials to meet the evolving needs and interests of each child. Provide daily activity presentations, encouraging curiosity and independent learning. Contribute to planning and delivering group activities during the afternoon session e.g. baking. Design and implement learning activities, delivering the Montessori curriculum while incorporating the national framework. Support children in becoming self-directed, confident, and self-regulated learners. Foster a respectful and inclusive classroom culture, promoting concentration and independence. Act as a role model for children, managing behaviour positively and respectfully. Ensure children's safety and well-being both indoors and outdoors while carefully observing their development. Build strong, supportive relationships with allocated children and track their progress holistically. Participate in discussions about child development, attend staff meetings, and engage in professional training. Adhere to the nursery's policies and procedures. Complete appropriate paperwork e.g. accident reports. Maintain regular communication with parents, providing updates on their child's progress and addressing any concerns. Take responsibility for safeguarding children and maintaining a secure and healthy learning environment.
