Fancy working in a gorgeus rural location, with a wonderfully supportive staff team?

Our lovely not-for-profit small community nursery is looking for a fun, confident and enthusiastic Early Years practitioner to join our friendly, professional, and hardworking team. We care for children aged 2-5 years in the centre of the beautiful village of West Linton. We also run an after school club, Westies! Which is based in the building of West Linton Primary School. Please note that this role may also include some time with our Westies children (aged 3-12).

We aim to provide excellent learning facilities through play, both indoors and out. Children are encouraged to become explorers, and to take part in everything from messy art to music, from building a den to listening to a story. Safe, happy, fun learning is what we are all about. We pride ourselves on being an integral part of the village community and regularly work with volunteers and other organisations in the area including local farms, the mobile library service, and the Village Centre.

Staff discount is available for staff children attending the setting.

West Linton Early Learners & Westies is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation

(SCO12258), overseen by a voluntary board of Trustees.

We run on a term time only basis (Tweeddale, Scottish Borders Council) and have a part time vacancy for the following hours:

Monday 8:00am-4:30pm

Tuesday 8.00am-4.30pm

Wednesday 7.30am-4.30pm

Friday 8.00am-12.30pm

Plus possible additional sessions on an ad hoc basis.

Essential Requirements



HNC in Childhood Practice

Experience working with children

Good working knowledge of all key documents including: o Curriculum for Excellence (early level)

Health and Social Care Standards and other key Care Inspectorate documents

HGIOELC and other relevant frameworks

Building the Ambition/Realising the Ambition/PreBirth to 3 Guidance

How Good is Our Early Learning and ChildCare

Desirable qualities



Food Hygiene Qualification (not essential, training can be provided)

First Aid Qualification (not essential, training can be provided)

Well-developed communication skills, including ability to liaise effectively with parents and write meaningful children's development reports and records.

Ability to work without supervision, proactively, showing good initiative.

Ability to work as part of a friendly, effective, enthusiastic team.

Experience of working with children 2 to 5 years of age.

Experience of working with children of primary school age

Committed to being a valuable member of a team.

Interest in Continuing Professional Development and/ or appropriate qualifications

Happy to work as part of a team in order to meet the needs of the children and Early Learners as a whole

Able to respond to changes of plan where required and willing to take a flexible approach to activities.

Ability to provide warm and consistent care to all children attending Early Learners

Commitment to working within an equal opportunities framework

Interest in planning play, arts and sports activities for children of pre-school age

Ability to understand and meet children's needs, including those of children with additional needs

Responsibilities



To help the manager and the staff team to:

Facilitate the day-to-day running of the setting, complying with the setting's policies, procedures and regulatory requirements.

Ensure nursery is set up each day

Ensure that the setting meets the contractual requirements of the council.

Ensure that suitable activities are planned and implemented in accordance with current curriculum practice and the setting's development and improvement plan.

Ensure that children's individual learning needs are catered for and that each child's progress is recorded.

Ensure that children are fed appropriately nutritious and freshly made food.

While these are the key responsibilities of the role, this is not necessarily an exhaustive list and other duties may be required to ensure the smooth running of Early Learners
