Purpose of the Role
At Sweet Peas Day Care & Teaching Nurseries, we believe every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and included.
As our
SENCO & Inclusion Manager
, you'll ensure children with additional needs are identified early, supported effectively, and fully included within the nursery environment.
You'll work closely with children, families, our Early Years team, and external professionals to provide the right help at the right time - minimising barriers and maximising outcomes for every child.
This role is both strategic and hands-on, combining guidance, training, and daily involvement across our rooms.
Key Responsibilities
Observe and assess children's development to identify additional needs early
Create, monitor, and review
Individual Support Plans
with clear goals and strategies
Adapt learning activities and environments so every child can participate and thrive
Coach, guide, and upskill Early Years Educators in inclusive practice and early intervention
Work collaboratively with external professionals (e.g. Speech & Language Therapists, OTs, Educational Psychologists)
Manage referrals, reports, and reviews linked to SEND and inclusion
Communicate effectively with parents and carers, ensuring they're fully involved in support planning
Spend time daily across rooms - modelling inclusive practice, observing through play, and supporting universal provision
Promote equality, inclusion, and a nurturing culture across the nursery
Person Specification
Essential Skills & Experience
Experience supporting children with
special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
Working knowledge of the
SEND Code of Practice
and statutory requirements
Strong communication and partnership-building skills with families and professionals
Ability to write, implement, and review Individual Support Plans
Understanding of
Leeds City Council
SEND processes, including funding applications and EHCPs
Collaborative approach, with patience, empathy, and a child-centred mindset
Desirable
SENCO qualification (or willingness to complete it)
Experience within an early years or nursery environment
Training in specific intervention strategies (e.g. speech and language, sensory play)
Knowledge of the
Leeds Local Offer
and wider SEND services available to families
