Role Overview
As the
Early Years SENDCo
, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring high-quality inclusive education and care for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You will lead the identification, planning, and implementation of support strategies, working closely with children, families, colleagues, and external professionals.
Key Responsibilities
1. Supporting Inclusive Practice
Coordinate the setting's approach to identifying and meeting SEND.
Implement the graduated approach: Assess, Plan, Do, Review*. Ensure all practitioners understand their responsibilities to children with SEND.
Maintain accurate records to support participative decision-making.
2. Advising and Supporting Colleagues
Provide guidance and training to staff on SEND practices.
Support practitioners in assessing their competencies and identifying professional development needs.
Promote a culture of reflective practice and continuous learning.
3. Working in Partnership with Families
Ensure parents are actively involved in all stages of SEND support.
Facilitate collaborative planning of outcomes, interventions, and reviews.
Provide families with information and access to support services.
4. Liaising with External Agencies
Build effective relationships with local authorities, health professionals, and support services.
Understand and utilise the Local Offer and available funding streams.
Coordinate multi-agency support for individual children.
5. Developing Own Practice
Stay up-to-date with SEND legislation, guidance, and best practice.
Engage in ongoing professional development.
Reflect on practice and seek opportunities for growth.
Candidate Requirements
Level 3 qualification
in childcare (minimum).
Experience or training in SEND (EYTS/EYP status desirable).
Strong understanding of the EYFS and SEND Code of Practice.
Passionate about inclusive education and child-centred practice.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
