Pippa's House, Guildford currently has an exciting opportunity for an Early Years teacher to help lead the setting as it continues to grow. You should have at least a degree level teaching qualification, experience of working in a nursery at a minimum of room leader level and a commitment to continually building and implementing best practice.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



Early Years Teacher / Pre School Teacher



Plan rich and stimulating learning activities that achieve good progression in children's understanding by: identifying clear learning objectives and learning content, appropriate to the subject matter and the children being taught*
setting exciting and intriguing tasks for whole class learning, small group learning and self-initiated, exploratory learning.*
setting clear targets for children's learning that build on prior attainment*

identifying children's who:

have special educational needs*
are high attainers*
are not yet fluent in English*

Ensure that learning is appropriately differentiated so that the learning is well pitched, and all children are challenged at their current level of understanding.

Create a high quality, rich, stimulating and enabling learning environment containing items that will capture children's attention and lead to independent exploration. Make effective use of assessment information on children's attainment and progress when teaching and in planning future learning. Plan opportunities to develop children's spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development

Teaching & Room Management



Ensure effective teaching of the whole class, and of groups and individuals within the whole class setting, so that learning objectives are met, and children's learning time is used efficiently. Establish and maintain a purposeful learning atmosphere. Set high expectations for children's behaviour, establishing, and maintaining a good standard of discipline through well focused, engaging teaching and through positive and productive relationships. Establish a safe, clean, and secure learning environment which promotes children's confidence. Use teaching methods which capture children's interest and maintain their engagement through: offering rich, captivating learning activities*
setting the highest expectations for all children*
clearly establishing a purpose for learning, placing it within a context*
effective questioning that includes open and closed questions, together with the use of probing, supplementary questions*
providing frequent opportunities for children to learn through talk and interaction*
stimulating intellectual curiosity and communicating enthusiasm for learning*
matching the teaching approaches used to the learning and development area of the curriculum and the age of the children being taught*
modelling good language use to children*
modelling good social skills to children*
clear instruction, effective modelling, and accurate explanation*
listening carefully to children's, analysing their responses, and responding constructively in order to take their learning forward*
selecting and making good use of ICT and other learning resources which enable learning objectives to*
be met*
providing opportunities to develop children's wider understanding by relating their learning to 'real life'.*

Monitoring, assessment, recording, reporting and accountability



Be familiar with the Code of Practice on the identification and assessment of special educational needs and, as part of the responsibilities under the Code, create and review One Plans for children's with identified special educational needs. Evaluate your own teaching critically and use this to improve your effectiveness. Assess how well learning objectives have been achieved and use this information to improve specific aspects of teaching. Maintain good organisation and accurate assessments so that they offer a clear record of children's progress and complete an EYFS profile for each child. Be familiar with the statutory assessment and reporting requirements and know how to prepare and present informative reports to parents. Understand the expected demands of children in relation to the expectations of the Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

Management and administration



Be responsible for the line management of teaching assistants in the Nursery including their performance management. Participate in administrative and organisational tasks related to the responsibilities described above. Support students on placement in Early Years Foundation Stage classes. Foster close relationships with parents/carers and the wider community. Assist them to support their child's learning at home. Present a positive image of the school to all other stakeholders.

To create a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all children To be aware of Pippa's House Nursery's policies and procedures and ensure these are adhered to To share responsibility for the welfare of all children in your designated room, following systems to ensure consistent, high-quality care To be vigilant and protect children from harm or abuse, reporting any concerns immediately - in accordance with child protection and whistleblowing policies To be reliable and punctual, maintaining staffing ratios at all times To develop genuine bonds with your key children and support colleagues to sensitively fulfil their key person responsibilities To reflect on practice and daily routines, tailoring them to meet the individual needs of each child, throughout the day To contribute to planning and the provision of a stimulating range of age appropriate activities and ensuring your room is well-resourced and creatively set-up To contribute to observations and the assessment of children's learning and development ensuring records are kept up to date, are of a high standard and are shared effectively To provide feedback and work in partnership with key parents/carers, building and maintaining relationships that encourage trust, open communication, and involvement in nursery life To contribute to the effective recording and resolution of any complaints or investigations, ensuring confidentiality at all times To be professional and a good role model to the children and other staff members, at all times To work flexibly as part of the larger team, assisting and supporting colleagues wherever required, in order to ensure the smooth running of the company. To be aware of the high profile of Pippa's House Nursery and refrain from irresponsible behaviour that could impact the company's commercial success To attend reasonable out-of-working-hours activities, including training, staff meetings, parents' evenings, and special events To communicate effectively, sharing information, participating in meetings, inductions and 1-2-1s To respect and value all colleagues, children, and parents, encouraging a positive and diverse working environment To cooperate and work effectively with the Room Leader and management team, taking on additional responsibilities/duties To undertake any other aspects of nursery work according to need
